Hah!

I love it when somebody is propping Hakeem over Shaq...

Jordan is not Hakeem.

So what?

Well, maybe you don't remember Hakeem faking injuries... We've been through this...Don't need to do it again.

Hakeem where would Bird, Pippen and Magic fall on your ratings list? How about Dwayne Wade and Dirk today?

Re: Evaluating Great Big Men: Prime Hakeem and Shaq and others

With all due respect, I didn't rank Ewing higher than Malone, I ranked Malone at 9.2 (tied with David Robinson) and Ewing at 9.1. I did say that Ewing's best season he was a more dominant player than Karl Malone who I rank higher overall, primarily due to Ewing's impact as a shotblocker/intimidator which has historically been the key to effective defense (though less and less so in the last 10 years as the rules/interpretations/coaching focus more and more away from post offense and defense).

As for Barkley, I'd take Pippen first. I think Charles is a wonderful TV personality but I don't think he was a great teammate; the opposite, I think he was a Derrick Coleman type influence with his attitude and lack of defensive effort despite his individual brilliance.

Kobe 9.2

Garnett 9.3

This is fun. What separates Dirk from prime Kobe, etc. are his inferior passing and defense.

Let's see your ratings.

Oops, I did it again.

It’s extremely difficult to compare players such as Hakeem and Shaq with each other, with the obvious challenge of different games and physical characteristics. Hakeem was a goaltender in terms of the game of soccer (or football internationally) in the paint, while Shaq was the more traditional body type – just much bigger.

With all that said, I give Hakeem a higher rating because I firmly believe he was more talented and possessed athleticism that Shaq did not.

Jordan – your hypothetical 10

Hakeem Olajuwon: 9.7
Shaquille O’Neal: 9.3
Tim Duncan: 9.2
David Robinson: 9.1
Karl Malone: 9.1
Charles Barkley: 9.1
Patrick Ewing: 9.0

Re: Evaluating Great Big Men: Prime Hakeem and Shaq and others

Jordan 10
Hakeem 9.8
Shaq 9.8
Bird 9.7
Magic 9.7
Drob 9.7
Duncan 9.7
McGrady 9.6 (only in the 2003 season combined with his second best season -- otherwise 9.4)
Karl Malone 9.6
Charles Barkley 9.6
Wade 9.6 (on his last two seasons -- 9.3 if the last three seasons)
Garnett 9.5 (9.8 in the 2004 season, but has faltered lately)
Ewing 9.5
Dirk 9.5 (the last two seasons he has become an offensive juggernaut much like Barkley and Malone were)
Kobe 9.5 (last season he was a 9.7, next best season combined comes to 9.5)
Pippen 9.3 (if he had one or two more seasons like the 1994 it would be higher, but had MJ as sidekick, tough to tell)
Drexler 9.2

(these are mainly made from a players two or three year prime

I pretty much agree with these ratings, though I might bump everyone but Magic and Bird up a tenth. I'm not sure the gap between Magic and Bird and the rest is so wide, especially since they didn't have much impact on the defensive end. That's not enough to equalize things, but it does take a chunk out of their relative edge.

It's laughable to put Magic/Bird alongside Duncan and D-Rob.
And Wade and T-Mac as good as Karl freking Malone?

Man, you ARE twisted...

No, it's not. shaq was better. End of story.

Off course Hakeem had many things Shaq did not. In fact, i don't remember Shaq ever netting a jump shot. But it's not relevant. Shaq did more.
