Most explosive 6th man in history
Not necessarily the best . . . for my book that would be someone like Michael Cooper who could come in as a defensive stopper . . . nor do I want anyone that had a great career as a starter too like Havlicek, McHale, Bobby Jones, etc. . . . want guys who spent pretty much their whole career (at least 80%) as a reserve and who were pure instant offense off the bench.
I'll lead off with the three I remember best:
Ricky Pierce - - instant offense but spent 8 years backing up Sidney Moncrief . . . hit for as high as 23 ppg, could shoot or slas, twice SMOY and made an all-star game in one of his other years despite starting only 2 games that year.
Dell Curry - - pure shooter with pretty much unlimited range primarily for the Hornets as I remember. Didn't play any defense or have any handles but in terms of catch the ball and put it in the basket, up there with Reggie Miller, Ray Allen and the other greats.
Vinnie Johnson -- probably not the scorer that Pierce and Curry were but had the coolest bench guy nickname (The Microwave - - he heats up in a hurry) and was Mr. Instant Offense for championship teams.
Whose your pick?

Re: Most explosive 6th man in history
When I think 6th man, I think Toni Kukoc and Detlef Schrempf.

Dale Ellis was named the NBA's Most Improved Player in 1986-87, after he was traded from Dallas to Seattle. Ellis never was named Sixth Man of the Year.
IMO, the most explosive sixth man in NBA history was Ricky Pierce. The fact that Pierce was one year Milwaukee's leading scorer in 1989-90 as a sixth man (the only player in NBA history to do that) gives credence to his selection.

Re: Most explosive 6th man in history
As a big man, Roy Tarpley deserves mention before he hit the drugs.
Corliss Williamson in his prime was a guy who could carry an offense for stretches. Then Eddie Johnson (the 6-7 swingman, not "Fast Eddie" the sexual predator) could fill it up as well.

Re: Most explosive 6th man in history
in history?
damn... I haven't lived that long. But here is a list of my favorite sixth-men:
- Toni Kukoc (Could've been a second option elsewhere)
- Detlef Schrempf (He already played like an All-Star in his sixth-man years)
- Bobby Jackson (He did a great job scoring off the bench for that Kings team)
- Andres Nocioni (Provide offense and defense off the bench. Important player for the Bulls)
- Ben Gordon (Might not start the game on the bench ever after this season. But his SMOY performance as a rookie is probably the best ever by a sixth-man)
- Leandro Barbosa (He's going to win it this year. Actually he's the next guy after Ben Gordon when I read the topic of the thread. He's definitely the most explosive off the bench this year)
Player to watch out next year: Francisco Garcia. He's going to be the all-around version of Kevin Martin. The Kings have some good young players.
