what's your idea's on it. yeah pretty worn topic but always garners pretty interesting debates mine would have to be

Wilt Chamberlain
(this list is in no particular order)
Kobe Bryant although not on my list, still warrants recognition 'cause i feel by the end of his career or maybe in a couple more seasons will earn his rightful place as a 20 greatest player of all time.

Excellent list. I have 17 of those 20 on my list. The ones I don't have are Rick Barry, David Robinson, and Charles Barkley. I do have Kobe Bryant in the Top 20, though he barely made it. And the other two I have who aren't on your list are John Havlicek and George Mikan.

that is a excellent list of players but i think allen iverson should get a nod as well as one of the 20 greatest players.

Hondo is underrated. Great offensive player. Great defender. One of the most complete players ever. I have him above Pippen in my all-time SF list which goes: 1) Bird 2) Elgin 3a) Dr.J 3b) Hondo 5) Pippen 6a) Barry 6b) Nique

I wanted to bump this, get some more feedback on my list, and I wanted to add that I didn't expect Kevin Garnett to be traded into a situation the Celtics have right now. Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, and LeBron James are the 3 players most likely to make my list which might have to get expanded to 25 players.

Great list . . . if Kobe or Garnett win a ring this year (or LeBron wins this one and next years), someone will have to get bumped . . . I'd say Cousy, then Barkley, but that's some tough company to break into.
Actually, I would have Garnett over Barkley and Kobe over Cousy already; on the other hand that wouldn't solve the problem because Mikan would be on my top 20 list. . . he was both better and had a greater historical impact than Cousy so can't see why Cousy would make it ahead of him on any criteria unless you start your list at the introduction of the 20 second clock.

Deke, you replaced:
David Robinson, Moses Malone, Bob Pettit, Charles Barkely, and Jerry West
with
Patrick Ewing, Wes Unseld, Kobe Bryant, Gary Payton, and Isiah Thomas
Not an improvement. Robinson was clearly better than Ewing according to all contemporary observers (All-NBA teams, etc) both defensively and offensively. Much as I love Wes, he was an undersized banger with no offensive game and doesn't compare to Moses Malone.
Pettit and Barkley are both bigs, v. the smalls you replaced them with. Pettit was 1st team All-NBA every year he was in the league except his final one, MVP, beat the Russell Celtics, was the 3rd greatest rebounder per game in NBA history, averaged about 25 ppg for his career, and got to the line more than Michael Jordan. Barkley is shakier with his bad defense and party hardy attitude but still one of the greatest and most efficient scorers in NBA history and a great rebounder as well.
Payton may make it due to his defense though his offense isn't up to the above players or Jerry West who is in Payton's league defensively as well, Isiah is over his head in this company, he was never MVP or close, while he led a balanced championship | |
