10 Greatest Celtics
Who were the 10 greatest Celtics of all time based SOLELY on what they accomplished as on that team?
Off the top of my head:
Russell
Bird
Havlicek
Cowens
Cousy
Parish
Dennis Johnson
McHale
Sam Jones
Pierce

Len Bias and Reggie Lewis!
Bear with me and pardon the morbidity but I think they had a rather dramatic effect on the franchise themselves, don't you?

Tough list to quibble with. I can't knock any of them off. I'd put Pierce above Jones, McHale above DJ, and Cousy above Cowens.

He's also a Hall of Famer who was a big contributor on 8 championship teams.

A fair argument can be made that K.C. Jones rode Bill Russell's coattails in college and the NBA, thus receiving undue praise as a player. There is no way a player with Jones' performance level (essentially, a spare part) should be inducted in the Basketball Hall of Fame while superior players who mastered the game such as Adrian Dantley likely will never get inducted.

I don't think K.C. Jones should be in the Hall of Fame, at least not while guys like Adrian Dantley, Dennis Johnson, Gus Johnson, Spencer Haywood, Artis Gilmore, Bernard King, Paul Westphal, Jack Sikma and some others aren't in. But he was still a great Celtic because he was a valuable player on 8 championship teams. While he didn't score many points, he was a great defensive player, and a good passing point guard.

But you're the one who threw out K.C. Jones' hall-of-fame nomination as a sense of status and reinforcement as a choice for this list. IMO, Jones is an example of why I see the Basketball Hall of Fame as a joke -- there is no way Jones as an individual player should have been inducted as one of the greatest players ever, simply for riding Bill Russell's coattails.

I mentioned it because even if it's a joke, bottomline is he's still a Hall of Famer. He had to have some value to the Celtics if he made the Hall of Fame, had his number retired, and they won 8 championships with him on the team. I had him 16th on the list, which I don't think is a crazy position for him.
