Old v. New Champions

I was playing around on www.Whatifsports.com running 7 game matchups of NBA champions. I gave the older team in each the home court 4 times and ran in 5 year intervals from 2007 v. 1952 up through 1981(wanted one of the Celtics teams instead of another Kareem/Magic Laker squad) v. 1977. Surprising me, the older squad won every series in close matches except '07 v. '52 which was a blowout for moderns.

Results:

07 Spurs v. 52 Lakers (Duncan v. Mikan) 4-1
02 Lakers v. 57 Celtics (Shaq/Kobe v. Russell/Cousy) 3-4
97 Bulls v. 62 Celtics (Jordan/Rodman v. Russell/Jones) 2-4
92 Bulls v. 67 Sixers (Jordan/Grant v. Wilt/Greer) 3-4
87 Lakers v. 72 Lakers (Kareem/Magic v. Wilt/West) 2-4
* no way to adjust so Elgin Baylor is injured *
81 Celtics v. 77 Blazers (Bird/Archibald v. Walton) 3-4

Just some simulated fun

Re: Old v. New Champions

Ran them again and this time instead of close matches, a lot of blowouts, some with different winners:

07 Spurs v. 52 Lakers (Duncan v. Mikan) 4-0 Spurs
02 Lakers v. 57 Celtics (Shaq/Kobe v. Russell/Cousy) 4-1 Lakers
97 Bulls v. 62 Celtics (Jordan/Rodman v. Russell/Jones) 4-1 Bulls
92 Bulls v. 67 Sixers (Jordan/Grant v. Wilt/Greer) 0-4 Sixers
87 Lakers v. 72 Lakers (Kareem/Magic v. Wilt/West) 4-2 87 Lakers
* no way to adjust so Elgin Baylor is injured *
81 Celtics v. 77 Blazers (Bird/Archibald v. Walton) 0-4 Blazers

A 4-7 game sample is just not as statistically consistent as an 82 game sample.
