I was reading an article, and they were talking about past players vs current players, and one of the names that were mention for the past players was Bob Cousy, and they said that he wouldn't be able to make an NBA roster if he played in this ERA. I was wondering if you guys agree? Do you think he would be able to make a roster in this current ERA? And if he did would he have the same impact on a team like he did with the Celtics?

I am sure a lot of people on these forums have seen Bob Cousy play, and can answer this question. Yes it's been awhile ago since he played his last game, but I am sure some members here have a valid opinion on this thread. So please if you dont have anything good to say, don't reply to threads.

I have never seen Cousy play, but I must say that when "experts" say that a legend can't crack a current NBA roster, that statement is very misleading. If you're saying Cousy of the old era then it's possible he might not make a roster simply because of the incredible athleticism in the NBA today. However, if you say that someone as talented as Cousy with today's nutrition and training programs won't make it, then I think it's ridiculous. That's why when you rank players you have to take them for what they're worth in their own eras. Otherwise it'll be impossible to rank them.
I've seen plenty of footage of Cousy, and I would say that his ballhandling and passing skills, his clutch instincts and competitive drive would clearly earn him a spot in today's NBA--as a second tier star at worst. The only significant question is his low shooting percentages, which were basically par for the course for guards during his era. If he grew up playing in the modern era, he presumably would have benefited from the same coaching and training as everyone else, and would have developed a more sophisticated and accurate jump shot technique.
To say that he couldn't even make a roster is just plain foolish. This isn't Nat Holman we're talking about.

A more interesting question to me is how Sebastian Telfair would do if we transported him back to the late '50s or '60s. Decent ballhandling skills, decent passer, not much of a shot, spotty decision-making...also a much smaller league so fewer opportunities to play, let alone start, let alone star.
