Is Hondo being negleted?
When discussimg the greatest players in NBA history, i somewhat feel that John Havlicek is often overlooked...
Yeah, the guy used to be the 6th man for the dinasty Celtics. And yeah, guy hoovered between SG/SF...
Still, we're talking about 26.395 points (20.8), 8.007 rebounds (6.3) and 6.114 assists (4.8) for his career.
Alongside many championships, All-Nba Team selections, All-Defense selections, etc., etc.
If he is considered a SG, who is better than him? Jordan? West? Kobe? ---
If he is considered a SF, who is better than him? Bird? -----

Re: Is Hondo being negleted?
Havlicek is one of my favorite players of all time, so count me as biased when I say that he is being neglected (I personally consider him a SF).

All Time Favorite College Basketball Players (that I have watched play, apologies to Russell and Havlicek):

SG - Dwyane Wade (Marquette)
SF/PF - Jeff Adrien (UConn)
PF - Antawn Jamison (UNC)
C - Marcus Camby (UMass)

Re: Is Hondo being negleted?
I tend to think of him mostly as a SF, and at that position I'd put him only behind these guys: Larry Bird, Elgin Baylor, Julius Erving, Rick Barry, and now Lebron James.
You can argue Dominique Wilkins or Bernard King for scoring, or Scottie Pippen for defense, but as an overall package of talent on both ends of the floor, as well as teamwork and grit, Havlicek had very few peers.

Wow.
Yeah, he was.
I can't believe it would even be necessary for someone to even ask if John Havlicek was named as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.
And in regards to the original question, yes, Hondo is overlooked. In the "Best lineup possible for your team" thread, Havlicek didn't even make the cut for the Boston Celtics, which completely baffled me.
He was one of the greatest players in the history of the game, excelled on both ends of the court, and—which I highly value—did what was needed for the team to win: he came off the bench when that's what the team needed, and was the greatest sixth man in NBA history, then when the team needed him to start, he excelled there too, and led the Celtics to their first title after Bill Russell.
He doesn't get the recognition he deserves, but I suppose that unfortunately stems from a large majority of NBA fans not knowing much beyond the here and now.

Re: Is Hondo being negleted?
^ My question was rhetorical. The follow up is that he's been neglected, but more recently.

No problem - the internet makes it tough to make that sort of thing clear.

Re: Is Hondo being negleted?
People were sick of the Celtics by the 70s, then ready again in the 80s.
