I worship at the alter of MJ, but Hakeem Olajuwon is a first pick basically any year he comes out... dominant big men have traditionally run the NBA.... would have gone with the Dream.

The way they drafted worked out just fine for them, and they got championships out of it, something they didn't previously have. Why change what worked?

because you'd have the greatest player of alltime. 6>2
and they already had one of the leagues top 5 centers when they drafted olajuwon.
sampsons career ended early BUT the rockets had a ROOKIE center going for 21/12.
now add in Michael jordan as a rookie.
damn. not a bad place to start.

I like the idea of drafting Olajuwan, and then trading Sampson for a stud at SG (not named Jordan, unless the Bulls are stupid); Sampson's value was perceived to be high until Akeem stepped in and took his numbers.

hindsight is wonderful but Sampson's value was higher than either Hakeem's or Jordan's before the draft . . . Chicago would probably have done that like a shot.
