if your criteria is points, assists and steals it has to be john stockton who i believe is the alltime leader in two of those 3 categories.personlly i think magic was the best player at that position.

The greatest scoring point guard of all time was "Pistol" Pete Maravich. He was really unstoppable.
The greatest passing point guard of all time was Magic Johnson. He'd be the all time leader if his carrer wasn't cut short. I guarantee it.
The greatest stealing point guard of all time was Michael Ray Richardson. He anticipated and pounced. His carrer was cut very short so no one reall knows what he could do.
In closing, this is not meant for hating on John Stockton. He was the second greatest point gaurd of all time for his longevity and great passing. The reason he holds his records is because of his amazing ability to stay healthy.

No way. No way in hell actually. Even Magic knew this, and said that he was just keeping the record warm for Stockton.
Let's put it this way:
Magic played 906 games and averaged 11.2 APG, giving him 10,141 assists.
Stockton played 1,504 games and averaged 10.5 APG, giving him 15,806 assists.
If Magic plays the equivalent amount of games, also not likely as John Stockton's durability is legendary, he would have had to average about 9.5 assists per game in those games to equal Stockton. Not bloody likely, especially if he has a drop off similiar to Stockton's (in 898 games, Stockton was averaging 11.5 APG, higher than Magic's average).

And the fact that he was extremely good at passing and stealing.

he was unstoppable because how long ago he played..There was really no great defender when he played..If i had to pick somehow it would have to be out of John Stockon and Magic..But i would pick Magic because no one could guard him because of his size..

stockton not by much.
he could pass and steal better. period. magic was more flashy, and of course terrific, but stockton rises above the rest.

Oscar Robertson was the only player in the history of the NBA to average a triple double for a season. If your going by points-assists-rebounds-steals etc., he's the best PG ever.

Here's some more-
MPG:
Kidd 37.6
Magic 36.7
Stockton 31.8
FG%:
Kidd .404
Magic .520
Stockton .515
3p%
Kidd .325
Magic .303
Stockton .384
FT%
Kidd .776
Magic .848
Stockton .826
TOPG:
Kidd 3.41
Magic 3.87
Stockton 2.82
You mysteriously forgot those ones. Seriously though, at this point in his career I really don't think Kidd is the same caliber as Magic, Isiah, Stockton, and Oscar.. maybe after he retires and ends up being 3rd/4th on the assists lists and 2nd in steals.. hard to say. Right now though? Pretty dubious..
