most surprising teams in NBA history.. the Jazz?

I think what with all the preseason hoopla naming the Jazz as contenders to be worst EVER, they have got to be one of the most surprising teams in history (regardless of whether they make the playoffs).

This isn't a cinderella run, it's 82 long drawn-out games in which they have faced several key injuries, having to adjust accordingly.

Agree/disagree?

Not that I'm an NBA historian but that Blazers team that Jack Ramsay coached to a title I think might qualify as well, in terms of playoff surprises.

Feel free to set me straight or add you won.

they really are one of the stories of the year. I cant believe Jerry Sloan isnt a lock for coach of the year. The Grizzlies are really just just continuing a steady progression so to me their success isnt really that much of a suprise.

Remember the mid-west is all-time this year and 99% of people thought the Jazz would be below .400 this year.

not .400 - some people thought they would challenge the sixers' record for fewest victories ever (9-73). it cant be said enough.. simply amazing

even when they started hot, everyone said it was nice but we won't see you in april.
well.. its almost april

The Jazz this year have just been incredible. Who really expected them to fight for the playoffs? I have more respect for Jerry Sloan than any other coach in the league.

The jazz a surprising team? No not really.I can tell some examples on why they are doing as good as they are but no one will believe me.

I'm all ears for examples...

The Jazz are just amazing.. I, too predicted that they'd lose a lot. Obviously, I underestimated AK47 and thought that Matt Harpring and Keon Clark would be the leaders. I can't believe how wrong I was.

quick, thats utter BS if you're claiming you had the notion they would be challenging for a playoff spot before the season.
if not, by all means please drop those examples of your divination

I'm not enough of a NBA historian to compare teams going back through the decades, but the Jazz are my surprise team of the year. I look over that roster and I STILL see lottery team. The strength of the West this season, where even the worst WC teams have legit talent, makes the achievement that much more unexpected. I wouldn't have expected the Jazz to make the play-offs in the EC.

At the beginning of the year, I would have said that a lineup of:

Carlos Arroyo
Matt Harpring
Andrei Kirilenko
Keon Clark
Greg Ostertag

Would be 11th or so in the west, but definitely not the worst team in the NBA. But a lineup of Arroyo, Stevenson/Giricek, Kirilenko, Ruffin/Gugliotta, and Ostertag is definitely NOT playoff material on paper.

They're not going anywhere though because they don't have a player they can look to for scoring. AK is a mediocre offensive player at best, and he's the best they have.

How is ak a mediocre offensive player? I didn't know that he was.I think people underrated them because of how they're lineup doesn't look much like a good team.I want to say why I think they are doing just as good as they are but it will take me a while so I will have to this in another post.

He has very little ability to create his own shot, and 80% of his offense is generated from the system they run (countless picks until someone is open) or getting to the free throw line (he gets fouled a lot when he has the ball inside). If he could handle the ball, he'd be fine - but his ballhandling abilities just aren't any good.. until he improves that, he will always be a mediocre offensive player. On most other teams, even in 37-38 mins he'd be averaging 13-14ppg~. That doesn't take anything away from all the other things he does (everything).
