Re: KK's NBA Legends Draft DISCUSSION THREAD *SIGN UP'S CLOSED*
Wilt was a modern athlete in a 7'2'' frame. He wouldn't score 50 per game, but he'd go for 35 no doubt.
"Wilt is not a one-sport man, either. At Overbrook High School in Philly, he high jumped 6 feet, 6 inches, ran the 440 in 49.0 seconds and the 880 in 1:58.3, put the shot 53 feet, 4 inches, broad jumped 22 feet." |

I'm here, and actively looking, but I was sick yesterday. And I didn't know the clock had started because I thought it was starting at 11 Eastern on Saturday.

Re: KK's NBA Legends Draft DISCUSSION THREAD *SIGN UP'S CLOSED*
Interestingly enough last time I did a legend's draft on this board, I got Jordan with pick 3, and I was in finals against a team that had Wilt. I ended up losing by a small margin because enough people thought Dikembe Mutumbo had no chance of stopping Wilt from going off for 50+ point every game of the series, so it could end up working out for him.

^ That's one way to look at it. In terms of sheer offensive dominance, it's hard to pick someone other than Wilt. Even Bill Russell, regarded by many as the greatest defensive player of all time would have a successful night if he could limit Wilt to under 40 points. But Jordan still averaged 30+ points a game in his career against guys like Dumars and Payton.

Re: KK's NBA Legends Draft DISCUSSION THREAD *SIGN UP'S CLOSED*
Personally I think his modern NBA production, provided he played a team game and didn't hog the ball, would be in the peak Shaq range for ppg (with a slightly lower percentage, but with more rebounds because he'd choose to be more active on the glass and use his athleticism. Since we're doing single seasons, I even considered taking Shaq or Kareem Abdul Jabbar because in their best seasons I'd say they were as unstoppable as 50ppg Wilt, but I don't know what players will be available and Magic can make any team work, while I'd have to build very specifically around Shaq or Jabbar.
I'm wondering where Kobe and Lebron will go more than any other player though. Last edited by ss03; 07-28-2012 at 05:36 AM. |

Re: KK's NBA Legends Draft DISCUSSION THREAD *SIGN UP'S CLOSED*
Defense wins Championships, and I'm taking Bill Russell. A unique shot-blocker that was the cornerstone of the Boston dynasty. 5 time NBA MVP, 12 time all-star and winner of 11 Championship rings. Routinely averaged 20+ rebounds a game and while still scoring the basketball. Regarded by many as the best basketball player ever, Bill Russell is one of the most respected players to step on the court. A player that alone can change the dynamics of a game. He is often called the best defensive player and rebounder to ever play the game.
Couldn't be happier he fell to me at 4... |

Could I suggest that we refrain from mentioning undrafted players in this thread?

Bill Russell. Good pick.
I've always preferred trying to answer the question of: "How do we stop him?" as opposed to "How do we score on them?" |

Re: KK's NBA Legends Draft DISCUSSION THREAD *SIGN UP'S CLOSED*
I expect some people won't like the Shaq pick, but I'm excited. I had about 4 or 5 people I felt I could take in this spot and have fun building a quality team. In the end I decided to build around the dominant big man and scorer (and also to avoid the same players that I had built around in previous drafts of this sort.)

I definitely think Shaq was the right pick there, Diophantos. For as much as I like to kvetch about his work ethic and attitude, he was pretty close to a uniquely unstoppable offensive force in the peak of his career.
