Re: NLD: Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns
If I was the Suns, I would put Hill on Hondo, Rock on Nash, Pippen on Dirk, Webber on King, and... gulp... D-Rob on Hakeem.
But then again...

Re: NLD: Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns
I thought about something like that, and I would do a lot of switching to keep a fresh defender on Nash. I want someone that has good size on Nash and someone that can really disrupt his game. I was torn on benching Webber in favor of Smith. Putting Pippen on Dirk and JSmoove on King. And I might actually make that adjustment since Webber isn't completely necessary in the starting lineup and he may actually be a pretty good facilitator and option off the bench.
I didn't really want to put Robinson on Hakeem because of that exact video haha. But I figured putting some pressure on Hakeem on both sides is about the best I can hope for. My goal is to suffocate Nash and Dirk with Hill,Pippen and JSmoove. And then just get out and run and put pressure on their questionable transition defense. |

Re: NLD: Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns
Depth Chart for this match-up:
PG – Steve Nash (28) / Latrell Sprewell (20) SG – John Havlicek (35) / Latrell Sprewell (13); SF – Bernard King (25) / Mark Aguirre (10) / Dirk Nowitzki (13) PF – Dirk Nowitzki (25) / Maurice Lucas (23); C – Hakeem Olajuwon (40) / Robert Parish (8) (Brief) write-up Interesting changes on the Suns. To try and counter, Latrell (early on he was a good defender and playmaker) will play partime PG (cause of Hill) and Nash will play lesser minutes (to keep him fresh because he will have a hard time trying to defend Hill). Hondo will be on Rock and share playmaking duties when Nash is resting. To take advantage of Webber (nor a good rebounder – his TR% is worse than Dirk’s in the playoffs – nor defender) I will play some a Dirk/Mo/Hakeem frontcourt.(I will need two defensive bigs to play D-Rob and Webber, and Mo will totally punk Webber!) D-Rob and Pippen are all-time great defensive players, but I Hakeem and Hondo are better (IMHO), either defensively or offensively. I think my (adjusted) team can do a good defensive effort on the suns. On offense, Dirk is my #1 option, dude usually ups his game in the playoffs, and should do the same here.

Re: NLD: Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns
I'll definitely take Spree at the PG instead of Nash. Webber would more than likely end up losing time to Jsmoove as the series progressed. I love the match up of Smith vs Dirk.
I was a little concerned with Hondo defending Mitch but my alternative would be to move Pippen to SG and start Mulling. Which I did toy with, but I liked Mullin's playmaking off the bench. If I did that swap I'd probably decide to swap Cwebb and Smith and run a starting lineup of Hill, Pippen, Mullin, Smith, Drob. With Dwill, Mitch, Cwebb and Sampson off the bench. And a backcourt of Bdiddy and Dwill is an option as well. I'll take Cwebb and Dirk matchup. I don't think they would play each other to basically a draw. And if that happens I like my chances a lot more. |

Re: NLD: Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns
You got a heck of a team, l0st1, and by no means i think mine should be favoured.
Still, considering the absurd amount of talent in this Leage, it all comes down to (i) strategy (ii) match-ups. Regarding match-ups, you did very well in adjusting to try and deny Steve Nash. That made me think what i should do adapt mine to it's strenghts. You got Pippen, i got Hondo. You got Mullin/Rock, i got King/Aguirre. I tried to make a difference playing Hakeem heavy minutes (IMHO he is noticeable better than D-Rob - a player i love, btw; if i consider Hakeem a 90, i would give D-Rob a 80/85) and have Dirk as the main offensive player (because he is my X-Factor: there are some players in this league that, offensive-wise, are heads and shoulders against their competition, like Magic and Bird. On a lower level, Dirk is pretty hard (IMHO) to defend, considering he is a 7footer who can score (in bunches) from all over the court. So Dirk will be vital in this match-up, even playing a little SF (meaning Mo - alognside Hondo, the heart of the Golden State Warriors - will be called upon to deliver more minutes than i first antecipated). It's and interesting challenge, but i think Hakeem > D-Rob, Hondo = Pippen and Dirk being hard to handle gives me the chance to win it.

Re: NLD: Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns
Thanks for the compliments. Wish I could say the same about your TERRIBLE team... Kidding. I don't know much about some of your players. But from what I do know, you matchup fairly well against me.
I do, however, think I matchup very well against your top offensive option in Dirk. I think Hill, Pippen and Josh Smith all matchup with him very well. And I do think Webber is a decent enough matchup(despite his poor defensive standings), Hondo could be a little bit of an issue on both sides for me. He will be guarding a good offensive option and putting pressure on my defense. But I think I can survive him. If Drob can actually get close to Hakeems production I think I can take this matchup. If he lets Hakeem dominate him then I think I will have serious issues. I like how our teams matchup. Makes for some interesting battles. |

(see the video poster, for illustration).Hill has no chance of checking Dirk. Pippen? I don't see it (although he could probably make it difficult to get the ball in shooting spots - IF he is playing SF, which he won't for the majority of time he is in the game. And you have Smith playing 15 minutes to my Dirk's 38.

Re: NLD: Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns
Like I've said before the whole DC portion of this is a bit difficult considering we are expected to make a DC when we can see the other teams and then of course things changes throughout a series so the DC isn't exactly accurate or set in stone. So, the minutes and positional set up is really not something that can be taken that serious.
Drob CAN put up numbers against Hakeem. Infact their Head to Head numbers aren't that off... Robinson 19.6ppg 11.2rpg 2.9apg 2.2spg 3.3bpg 48.8FG% Hakeem 21.9ppg 11.2rpg 2.8apg 1.9spg 3.4bpg 44.1FG% Hill and Pippen can't guard Dirk? Are you kidding? Marion and Bowen both guarded Dirk VERY well. Dirk had some of his worst games against Bowen. But I guess I could make up another DC like you did just to illustrate the fact that matchups will change throughout. DCs are too difficult to really fill out |

Pippen, off course, could give Dirk a challenge. But Pippen isn't playing PF, is it? When i have Dirk playing SF, it will be against your sub unit. And who you got to check him? EDIT: Considering Dirk, you have Hill playing 5 minutes at PF. And none at SF. And you have Pippen stricktly as a SF. When are they defending Dirk?

Re: NLD: Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns
Again, like I said the whole DC part of this thing is ridiculous. Because it really just doesn't give any leeway on cross matchups or anything. I'm expected to put one DC together for a whole series?
And yes Hill CAN guard Dirk. Dirk is easy to bother because he's a vagina. Get up in him and it will make it hard for him. Exactly what Marion used to do. |

Re: NLD: Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns
I like Golden State here. Very efficient offense; not as good defensively and on the glass as Phoenix, but I think Hondo and Hakeem do enough there to pull it out for them.

Re: NLD: Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns
Hhmm, not as good defensively or rebounding but will win? I think my offense can compete with any in the league. So if my defense and rebounding is better then.....

I hate having this as a tie, but the show must go on I guess.
