Re: Odd stats
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the only player to have more then 5 MVP trophies. (he has 6)
Only two players in NBA history have ever won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award twice. (Kevin McHale, Detlef Shrempf)

Re: Odd stats
I was watching NBA TV this morning and they said that was the first time in like 25-30 years that teammates had a 30-20 and a 20-20 game in the same game.

Thats a 30-20, 20-20.
1986 was the last time teamates had 20-20s.

Huh?
Anyway, I just heard about this "odd" stat tonight. Tim Duncan, widely considered one of the best PF's in the game today and one of the best PF's of all time isn't even averaging more PPG in the paint than the PG on his own team. Parker averages 13 PPG in the paint and Duncan averages 12 point something.

Re: Odd stats
Some more love for Andrei Kirilenko's night (1/3/2006):
14 pts, 9 assts, 8 rbs, 7 blks, 6 stls (and throw in 5-7 shooting and just 1 turnover)
There have been only 6 5X5's since 1992 and Kirilenko has 3 of them.

I'd say the only odd part is just the fact that a point guard is leading the NBA in points in the paint. Parker and Duncan are #1 and #2 respectively in points in the paint in the ENTIRE league, Parker is just having a career year.

Re: Odd stats
Gilbert Arenas is currently averaging 29.7 ppg. If he goes over 30 (which I fully expect him to), he'll be one of four players averaging over 30 points a game this season. Has that ever happened in the modern era? Or ever?

Nice catch! It's only happened once....in 1961-62, perhaps the craziest statistical season of all time. In fact, SIX players averaged over 30 points that season: Wilt (50.4), Baylor (38.3), Bellamy (31.6), Pettit (31.1), West (30.8), and Oscar (30.8). 1961-62 was also the season in which Wilt averaged 50 and 25, Baylor averaged 38 and 19, and Oscar averaged a triple double. And despite those guys putting up those insane stats, Russell won MVP and, of course, another championship. What a crazy season.
Never again has 4 or more players averaged over 30 ppg for a season. There have been only 5 seasons in which three players averaged over 30 ppg (61, 65, 66, 75, 82).

Re: Odd stats
In a recent Knicks/Suns matchup, the announcers mentioned that the Knicks lead the league in FTA's per game, and the Suns average the fewest in the league. I guess what's odd is that the Knicks are one of the worst teams in the league, and Phoenix is one of the best teams in the Western Conference. I thought that was pretty odd, since the usual belief is that the more you get to the free throw line the better chance you have at winning.

Re: Odd stats
In the triple overtime loss Shaun Marion played 60:06 minutes which is more than Malik Rose (4:33), Mo Taylor (24:01), Qyntal Woods (15:24) and Channing Frye (15:02) combined (60:00)
Amazingly, Marion only recorded 1 turnover whereas the others combined had 7 turnovers.
Also, Marion played all three overtime periods with 5 fouls and didn't get fouled off.

Re: Odd stats
2 things from the Grizzlies/Kings game tonight:
Mike Miller with a triple double coming off the bench. I'm sure that's happened a good few times, but still rare to see.
What's weirder is Eddie Jones' line for tonight: 2reb, 4asst, 3pts, 7stls? First time ever I've seen someone with more steals than points, assists, or rebounds in one game!
