Analysis of Defensive Adjusted Plus/Minus: Baron Davis

Does Dan Rosenbaum's defensive adjusted +/- accurately measure the defensive abilities of select top defensive point guards (according the the statistics)? The key point guard in question is Baron Davis. I have always been under the impression that Davis is an elite defender though has been limited because of his injuries slowind down his mobility and lateral quickness. I know there are others who disagree that Davis is even a good defender. I understand that adjusted +/- has its flaws especially with point guars but I still feel that Davis has been a great defender for the last few seasons. He may have declined recently but his standard error is fairly low. Basically, do you hold defensive adjusted plus/minus in high regards considering Davis' inclusion amongst the best defensive point guards according to these statistics?

Note: the article is old and does not reflect the current season whatsoever.

Marcus Banks is another story.

Re: Analysis of Defensive Adjusted Plus/Minus: Baron Davis

The standard deviation on those numbers really makes me question their true value. I have a lot of trouble with an error rate twice the size of the rating number.

There was a lot of discussion on the Bulls boards about these numbers because Duhon was so high and Gordon was equally high for SGs. Gordon's number didn't seem to jive with game observaations. So it was controversial.

Granted, I can only look at the raw defensive +/-, not the adjusted, but it looks like each player would be in the middle of the pack this year.

So way too much variation in the stat IMHO to weight it too heavily
