Post (Programming) Import Statistics into database

Hi,

I wonder if any public interface (e.g. werbservice, database export, ...) or so exists which one could use to gather basketball statistics (any kind) in his own piece of software for further usage.

Thanks for any hints,
r.

Question Re: (Programming) Import Statistics into database

Does anybody know by chance how other platforms (82games.com, espn, ...) access the NBA's official statistics?

Thanks,
r.

Re: (Programming) Import Statistics into database

If your willing to pay thousands like they do I believe the site is still stats.com may have changed the name though, as I cannot access the site right now.

Best bet is if your having a site with stats, is just to form a team and manually update the stats.

Unhappy Re: (Programming) Import Statistics into database

Thanks for your answer!
I'd like to use the stats in a research project, so there's no $$$ to pay for them. As they are publicly available as website I hoped to find them accessible in structured form as well ...

Post Re: (Programming) Import Statistics into database

I'm looking for some email address to contact the NBA for business/research purposes, regarding statistics & video footage. I'd be thankful for any hints.

Thanks in advance,
r.

Re: (Programming) Import Statistics into database

dougstats.com has updated downloadable player-by-player data. not sure if you're looking for something more sophisticated.

Re: (Programming) Import Statistics into database

Dougstats looks like it has everything you would need to enter things into database form. Looking at it, I might be able to use this too, so thanks for that one kflo.

Re: (Programming) Import Statistics into database

I still did not receive the NBA's official permission to use stats for research purposes, they didn't contact since my "fanmail" some time ago.

Re: (Programming) Import Statistics into database

I think regardless of what sort of rights the nba holds over their stats and information, fair use would allow you to use it for research (especially if its for a school project or something).

if you know a site where you can view the stats, generally there are ways to copy it into excel or something. sometimes it is difficult with formatting, etc, but "text to columns" can remedy most of the issues.

Re: (Programming) Import Statistics into database

I assume and hope so. We'd use it for professional research, but still without any exploitation objectives, so I couldn't see why they wouldn't want me to do that. We're technically able to grab the stats, it's really just about the official permission.

Thanks for your thoughts,
r.

I am using Knickerblogger
Dougs stats are just as good too. I use PHP to import from CSV into a MySql database on my sites. Then some more coding to calculate create pages. Still learning though.
