The NBA's New Jersey Nets released public-address announcer Rick Zolzer recently, ending the Poughkeepsie resident's three-year stint with the club that won the Eastern Conference title twice while he was here.

I like how he called "JASSSSSSONNKIIIDDD", but was not fond of the million names he had for Kenyon Martin.
Although, KEN-YON MAR-TIN was always great.

Cost cutting?
In a related story the Nets announced today that several additional expenses will likely be trimmed for the 04-05 season:
Mustard will no longer be a free condiment at concession stands; toilet paper will no longer be installed in public restrooms; interior arena lights will be turned off during half-time; due to increases in the cost of gasoline and related transportation expenses all away games have been cancelled resulting in a 42 game season, which will cut team payroll by 50%.
Further expense reduction measures are being contemplated. However, please be advised, due to escalating postal costs season ticket holders will not be contacted by the NJ Nets with further updates. However a large cardboard sign will be posted at the entrance of parking lot before game one. It is suggested you arrive at least 4 hours prior to game time so that you may return to Route 17 to procure any provisions you expect you may need during your stay at the arena (flashlight, toilet paper, mustard, etc) and still return in time for tip off.
