Nets 2004 Draft Grade
My grade: F
Maybe I am being too harsh, but Jameer Nelson and Josh Smith were both within our reach, and I believe we should have went for them. As for Drejer, I really don't like the kid, especially the aura that surrounds him.

If the sale of the pick actually helps them sign K-Mart: B. If not: D.
Drejer sounds very talented. Sounds like the whole Florida think put other teams off, so maybe he's a steal at #51. He's played on some good European teams. Curious to see if he stays there for one more year.

Wow. Herve Lamizana and Darius Rice both not drafted. I'd like to pick up at least one of these guys, if not both.

There was no one at 22 that I was interested it, so I will wait and grade the Nets based on their offseason as a whole.

It was the perfect draft for making money. Not only does Thorn not have to spend anything, he earned money.
It also shows that Thorn values talent more than character.

I don't buy the whole "bad attitude" thing at all. Sound to me like the guy just didn't fit in at Florida, felt more comfortable in Europe, and took advantage of an opportunity when one of the best teams offered him a contract.
Now, could it be that he'll feel uncomfortable in New Jersey when he comes? It's definitely a possibility, but when he's getting paid, he'll have more motivation to stick around. Basketball-wise, it sounds like a steal.

Attitude problems I can live with, but, my opinion is that he showed a character flaw. He left in the middle of the season without talking to his teammates or coaches. I realize I in the minority on this one, but I still don't like the pick.
The part that cracks me up is the people that will castigate Kenyon for trying to get the most money he can and say that is anti-team, yet don't see a problem taking this kid. I know that is on the other board, but I just wanted to vent.

I'll give them a C+. Hope that they keep Drejer.

I don't see how discussing a max salary for Martin and the prospects for a 52nd pick (51st pick over-all) is in the same ball park.
Incomplete sounds about right. Is Drejer even coming over this season?
As far as a letter grade, B. It would have been a C or even lower if the Nets had ended up with trash instead of a legit talent. Now, I think Drejer is capable of making an impact as a rookie. We just don't know yet if he'll come over this season or what he can offer after the U-Florida mess. For those reasons, I would have given a higher grade if Thorn picked up a player we could be confident would step in a rookie this season and make an immediate impact - well, at least by the post-season.
Drejer supposedly has 1st round talent, so reasonably, there has to be a reason he dropped in the draft. One, his injury. Two, he bailed on U-Florida. I'm willing to give CD more leeway on the latter given his age - loyalty to team is important, but if he was a poor fit with U-Florida, he couldn't afford to mess around with his draft prospects - and the fact he's an ejectable 52nd pick.

If Drejer pans out, that will allowed RJ to move to SG. But that's the talk a couple of years down the road.
As far as the first-round pick goes, I kind of agreed with ESPN, that Nets blew it because they sold the pick without even wait till the time of draft. In this case they could have get Sergei Monya, who by all accounts is a good prospect at SG/SF.

As a knick fan,I feel bad for you guys..You were so close and now it seems money is the number 1 priority, not winning...Jameer Nelson was within reach, and he would have been a great backup for Kidd
