"dealing Kittles Key To Nets' Plan"

http://www.nypost.com/sports/nets/23958.htm

Although this isnt super reassuring it does let us know that we're still trying heavily to trade Kittles to keep the big three.

If Ratner is intrested in money then I'm not sure that he would like to see Kidd, Martin, or RJ leave because that would put a dent in ticket sales.

Not sure what they can get for Kittles. It would certainly mean taking on longer contract(s), so somehow Thorn needs to convince Ratner that he would save money in the long run. Hard to do when Kittles' $10 million would come off the books next summer if he just stays.

Only other way would be to trade him to a team with cap space, but even those teams don't want to waste $10 million of their hard-earned cap space on a player like Kittles.

I think Kerry can do alot more than what we saw of him. He was our 4th option. When he's second option on another team maybe he can mean alot to a franchise.

I really think those days are behind him. He sits alot, and it would to be to protect his knees. I doubt a team with cap takes a chance on him.

I think, for next year at least, Kittles has more value to the Nets by staying then by being traded. If he had more than one year on his contract, or if the Nets were willing to spend more money in the long run in order to improve, then it's easier to find a deal that makes sense for the Nets.

If the Nets replace Kittles, Harris and Rogers with 3 players traded for KK, they would save (for this year) the difference between Lu and Rodney's salaries and their buyout numbers. Plus or minus any difference between Kittles' salary and the combined salaries coming over in the trade (since they only need to be within 15% of each other).

Any additional years on the contracts of the players coming over wouldn't be that big of a deal since the Nets will be in better financial shape after this year. (As long as the player is worth that future salary.) So, Lucious and Rodney make a combined $6 million this year. I believe they can buy out Lu for $1 million, and I would guess it would take $2 million for Rodney. So they would save $3 million.

Add in the $6 million saved by trading the 1st round pick, and you have $9 million dollar savings.

The big question is this though, can the Nets move Kittles?

Teams with cap space will take Kittles only if they could not get anyone they desired this summer. We'll know in late September and even then the Nets might have to throw in a future first-round pick to entice that team, if there's any.

If a Kittles trade is the key to re-signing K-Mart, then September will be much too late. But you're right about maybe needing to include a pick or two to get something done.

A source said that the Nets are still trying to trade Kerry Kittles and the $10 million remaining on his contract to save some money for Martin. They have talked to Cleveland involving a package that could include Dajuan Wagner, Eric Williams (who would have to agree to a sign-and-trade) and Kedrick Brown. Such a deal would allow the Nets to save perhaps a million or so dollars since the three players would make slightly less than Kittles.

If Cleveland intends to match for Boozer, I think that they will look for other options first.

If Utah front-loads their offer to Boozer, Cleveland would pretty much have to give away $10 million of salary. And still, they'd be doing it to keep a guy that just tried to screw them over. I don't see it happening. A Kittles deal would give them some space to do some shopping next year.

They have Z coming off next year, they have space already.

Honestly I'd try to get under to match for Boozer. If he is not happy, bench him and trade him the following year. I bet there would be a slew of teams willing to trade for a 15/10 PF whom makes 8 million based on this wild offseason.

Shedding $10 million of salary in less than 3 weeks will be awfully tough to do.

Forgot about Ilgauskus.
