Would the Nets let a 7th year get in the way of keeping an All-Star?
Did Kenyon, upset about Thorn's "cool" attitude towards the process, and despite what he said in both Denver and Atlanta last week, ask to be traded?
If the Thorn/**** relationship is what breaks this team apart, that would truly suck.

Very good questions. I always thought Thorn would use the 7th year to get Kenyon to sign for a little less in the first year (like 7/93.8).
Professional athletes all want to feel respected and wanted, so it is possible, but you would think the business side could be seperated.
It also could mean that Ratner does just want to be cheap. It seems like bad business to get rid of one of your best players and crowd favorites. Stranger things have happened, after all Shaq just got traded.

I'm upset with Kenyon more than anyone if this actually goes throgh. All along he has said how bad he wanted to stay in New Jersey, but this? It doesn't make any sense. 3 picks? C'mon. This is the heart of our team. Ya gotta make them at least throw in Boykins. This is a sad, sad day if this is true.
At least one thing good comes from this. Richard, congratulations. You are now one year away from making a ****load of money.

I don't know if I can take another year of Twin starting. It's all falling apart.
Ah, to be melodramatic. I really hope Krstic blows us all away.

I already explained. Kenyon talked so much about how he wanted to stay in New Jersey, but he couldn't sacrifice a little money for the good of a team? Is there truly that much of a difference between $84 million and say $78 million?

I take the other side and say why is that so much that it made a difference to the Nets???
Ratner and Thorn both said resigning Kenyon was the top offseason priority.
Looking forward to the spin yet to come from Ratner.

It's different because the Nets have other things to worry about. RJ next year, them having to pay a major luxury tax. This was Kenyon's move to make. If he wanted to stay in NJ so bad, he could have went straight to them and said, "I'm willing to sacrifice some money if I can get a 7 year deal on this team."
The other side can obviously be taken though. If we are going to sign him 7 years for $90 million, why not just keep him?

The luxury tax payment is for last season's salaries and, proportionatly, it is not huge (around 7 Million). There may or may not be a luxury tax for 2004-2005, but that won't be known for several months.
None of the quotes from Thorn seemed to indicate that he wanted to negotiate directly with Kenyon and ****. Everything was about getting an offer sheet.

****. Ugh. I know I'm not the only one that thinks he has Kenyon brainwashed. Does anyoe know who RJ's agent is? History? I'd like to know.
