I wouldn't give him anywhere near that kinda money.
if he wants it, he can get it elsewhere.

re
no chance Collins gets that kind of money from the nets, he mind get offered the mid-level exception from another team next year, but it won't be the nets.
The nets shed as much as salary as possible this past year, it certainly was not so they can resign collins to a ridiculous contract.

It's Decision Time for Nets' Collins
Quote:
Jason Collins has until Oct. 31 to sign a contract extension with the Nets. If Collins, a 7-foot center, cannot come to an agreement with the team by then, he cannot negotiate with the Nets during the season but can become a restricted free agent afterward.
"In general, it would be prudent for me to evaluate every option available to me at this point in time," the Stanford-educated Collins said Friday before the Nets played the Boston Celtics in a preseason game.
...
Collins would not comment specifically on negotiations but is believed to be seeking a four-year deal for about $6 million a year. General Manager Ed Stefanski said, "We would like to see if we could get something done there, too."
Collins praised Thorn and Stefanski for deals they had made.
"Rod and Ed Stefanski have made some good decisions," he said. "So as far as stability goes within the organization, having Rod under contract for the next six years is a good thing. But I also understand that this is a business and things change."

Different numbers in this article. Interesting to see if they get something done. 7 days left.

6 million a year for a back-up center? Let's be real, he is a below avg. starting Center.

Same numbers basically, just two years shorter. That doesn't make it all that much better.

One day left:
Quote:
The Nets are close to finalizing a deal with Collins for roughly four years at $6 million per season. Thorn and Collins are encouraged by talks in the past few days, and both sides predict the deal will be completed by Sunday's deadline for extending rookie contracts for three-year veterans.
"We love Jason Collins, he loves it here, so both parties are trying hard to get this deal done," GM Ed Stefanski said.

Wow this was stupid. Hopefully they ship him to Portland with Mourning for Damon, so the Nets can have more expiring contracts.
Why is Collins a building block for 6 mill? He sucks.

Fred Kerber reflects my feelings on Twin pretty well:
Quote:

Very athletic? No. Overpowering? Not quite. Dominant? Nope. But he gets job done. Good help defender, solid passer, strong positional player; sets screens, takes charges.

He does the little things, and gets a bad rap from outsiders and people looking for flash.

I tend to use people's opinions of Twin as a litmus test. If they can't understand his value to the Nets, then they don't understand Nets basketball.

Thats true. He doesn't put up big numbers, but he does play a big part in this team.

Collins' Contract
I like to think I know Nets' basketball, and if Collins is worth that money, Kenyon is VASTLY underpaid.

Would Brad Miller be Brad Miller if he wasn't surrounded by scorers and shooters in the Kings motion offense? He wasn't the same Brad Miller before joining the Kings.
That's not to say Twin and Miller are equally over-all skilled, but the specific skills (bball IQ, passing, unselfishness, toughness under the basket, jumpshot) that make Brad Miller a star on the Kings are also Twin's relative strengths. The problem has been that Twin has been part of a motion offense that was missing the necessary outside shooting and 'triple threat' components from the perimeter, the key to the Kings attack. That team weakness has placed more emphasis on the Cs' low-post game which he lacks, but so does Brad Miller.
The Nets perimeter shooting should go up this season with the likes of RJ improving, Mercer, Buford, Best, more time for Veal, E-Will, and Jabari Smith. If that happens, Twin's performance should go up.
