Game 6: Mavericks @ Nets--11.13.04

Dallas Mavericks (5-1) at New Jersey Nets (2-3)
Saturday, 11.13.2004, 1:00 PM EST
Continental Airlines Arena - East Rutherford, NJ
TV: YES, FSNSW, NBALP
NetsDaily Preview
The Dallas Mavericks come into New Jersey with the best record in the NBA, having handed the Heat their first loss of the season Thursday night. Dirk Nowitzki scored 41 points in Miami, is the league's 3rd leading scorer at 26.7 points per game, and is also grabbing close to 10 boards per game. The Mavs were active with trades this summer, adding Calvin Booth, Erick Dampier, Jerry Stackhouse and Jason Terry through deals. The Nets may miss Ron Mercer for up to a month, but Jason Collins and Travis Best are expected to return to action Saturday. The team may also activate Awvee Storey or Jabari Smith to replace Mercer. They have reportedly agreed to terms with Brandon Armstrong, but have not announced a deal.

1. Probably about another month.
2. Nobody. He has teams he may want to go to, but the Nets, and the fans would prefer he stay in NJ.

Good effort, but Nowitzki and Stackhouse were unstoppable today.
Zoran really showed he can be a scorer. Still a little turnover prone, but people got a real display of his talent today.
Absolutely nothing from the bench. First ineffective game from Mourning. He was outplayed by Dampier. Jacque Vaughn could not hit anything from mid-range. We might see more of Best on Monday.
Eric Williams was 4 for 6 from downtown. That could be a real help.
Rodney Buford can fill it up at times, but he needs to learn to stop shooting when he doesn't have it. 2 for 16, and some of those were just poor shots, that he shouldn't have been shooting even if he was hot. I like the Buford/Mercer combination, because there's a good shot of one of them being on, but when it's just Buford, it's like you got a 50/50 shot of having an effective 2 guard.
Train's lack of PT baffles me.

The Mavs are playing great ball, it was gonna be hard for us to win this one. That being said, we hung in there with them most of the game, which is kind of reassuring.
I'm also confused about Trains lack of minutes. Unless there is something wrong with him we don't know about...
