Game 22: Nets @ Grizzlies--12.17.04

New Jersey Nets (7-14) at Memphis Grizzlies (9-15)
Tuesday, 12.17.2004, 8:00 PM EST
FedEx Forum - Memphis, TN
TV: YES, FSO, NBALP
NetsDaily Preview
The Nets begin a 3 game road trip in Memphis Friday night where the revisit the scene of one of the worst losses in franchise history. The last time these two teams met, Memphis blew the Nets out by 47 points in a game that may have been the beginning of the end for Byron Scott in New Jersey. This year, the Grizzlies are off to a somewhat disappointing 9-15 start, and have recently undergone a coaching change, with Hubie Brown retiring and Mike Fratello taking his place. They are 4-4 under Fratello, and have lost 3 of their last 4. The Nets are coming off an ugly loss at home to the Knicks, in which the went 15 straight minutes without a field goal in the second half. Travis Best will miss Friday's game with a groin injury suffered in Tuesday's loss to the Knicks. Alonzo Mourning did not make the trip in order to rest his various ailments, but Richard Jefferson is expected to play despite a sprained left wrist. Lawrence Frank has hinted that Jason Kidd's minutes may be increased on the trip.

There are two people that always do good agaisnt the nets...one is big Z when we play clevland, and then other is Earl Watson.
This will be a hard one for us, but maybe Kidd will get a few more minutes, or his minutes distributed better, cause we're like a different team with him on the court.

Kidd, RJ, Dickens, Veal, Collins, Vaughn, Nenad, and Buford.
Ouch.

Good effort. Just didn't have the firepower down the stretch.
Best game from Kidd so far. 28 minutes, 17 points, 8 assists. 3-4 from downtown! Has he become a shooter?
Great game from Veal. Not that we expect him to put up 21 and 9 every night, but this is the type of player we wanted to see him develop into with increased minutes this year. Hopefully, Kidd's presence will bring some more consistency out of Veal.
RJ is really turning into a 2nd half guy, which is a good thing.
Some great moves down low from Krstic, one ending in a nice dunk, and another in a missed dunk, but I'll take it.
[dejavu]Buford stinks.[/dejavu] Can't wait until Mercer comes back, just so Rodney moves out of the way. He must lead the league in air-balls.
