I think the Nets would be in pretty good shape with the Clips and themselves both sneaking into the playoffs. They were well on their way to tanking the season but with Carter in the fold and two trade exceptions to make moves with, they should be playoff bound.
u mean a bad position
i dont want the nets to be in the PO this year, i rather see the lottery then see my nets lose to miami in a sweep. even if we win one games or two, i want a good draft pick this year because we are not contenders anymore.

"I'm going to be one of the best. Nobody's stronger than me. Nobody can really stop me at my position. I can play point guard through (power forward) effectively. And I can shoot the ball and play defense. I have one of the most complete games in the league." -- Ron Artest, the man, the legend.

"They better not put me in the All-Star Game. I won't shoot, but I'll dominate that easy game. I'll be playing hard defense. I'll be foulin'. I'll be flagrant fouling. Everyone will be like, 'What are you doing?'" -- Ron Artest.

I guess you're probably right but they should be able to get a decent power forward, even if they aren't in the lotto. I'd like to see Carter and the Nets back in the playoffs- with any frontcourt help they'd have a decent chance against anyone but the Heat.
The Clippers have a legitimate shot at the playoffs for once and I do think they're only getting stronger. Their pick would provide great depth.
Golden State's acquisition of 6-11 Zarko Cabarkapa from Phoenix may eventually help the Nets deal for a big man. It's no secret the Nets sought Warrior veteran [b]Cliff Robinson[/b.
Now with Cabarkapa, Golden State may be more inclined to deal the 6-10 Robinson, who turned 38 last month. Some see it as a Net positive, but others maintain the Warriors are intent on keeping Robinson. If anything happens, figure it's around the trading deadline. The Nets still seek size.
"We're looking but don't have anything on the horizon," said team president Rod Thorn. "It's so hard to get big players. People that have them don't give them up unless they're bad contracts."
Other big men the Nets have considered or pursued: Milwaukee's Joe Smith, Toronto's Donyell Marshall and New Orleans' P.J. Brown.
Smith's name is new. Makes me even more interested in tonight's game.
I think he's overpaid, I have no interest in him.

I think Joe Smith is solid. He can get on the offensive boards and hit the open J. He's owed about 18 mill or something like that over the next 3 seasons, if I am not mistaken. Not as bad of a contract as you may think. I'd rather have him than Uncle Cliffy at this point. Cliff is 38 years old. His body is going to break down on him any day now.
I doubt the Raptors are going to give us Marshall unless we give them a pick or two. They are now tied with the Nets in the Atlantic and have just as much of a chance to win it as any other team. Their schedule has been killer so far. They have it easy the rest of the season, unlike the Nets. They are not going to give up Marshall when they have a chance at the 3rd seed.
After tonight, I feel like giving up this season. We can pursue Shareef or somebody this offseason. If Thorn makes any trade, I would hope it is for PJ Brown. It's not like the Hornets are going to win any more games so why not dump some salary? Even with Brown though, we aren't going to be beating anyone in the playoffs if we were to even make it. This team sucks right now.

I agree to a certain extent. It's just a lot easier to make changes in the offseason. Free agents are available. Other teams are more willing to shake things up with trades. And the draft might not yield an impact rookie for the Nets, but might result in other teams parting with players who will be replaced by draftees (obviously players available this way would not be stars).
I suspect the Nets would have to pay a premium price to obtain a big main during this season. Those assets would go further in the offseason.
The Eastern Conference and especially the Atlantic division are weak this year. Can the Nets make the playoffs? They're four games out of the eighth spot with four teams to pass (excluding Toronto). Can they win the Atlantic division? They're 4 and a half games back with three teams to pass (excluding Toronto). What if the Nets turn things around and go 32-19 the rest of the way. The Knicks would only need to go 28-22 to finish with a better record.
My point is that the Nets might be a playoff factor this year, but I wouldn't gamble the future on it.
Also, Derrick Coleman got released by Detroit. He is horrible nowadays, but even that might be better than Jerome Moiso. Couldn't hurt to give him a 10-day. Would be nice to see Coleman finish his career a Net.
