The player the Nets are likely to pursue most vigorously is Golden State's Cliff Robinson, a 16-year veteran who was described as "hands-down the best defensive player in the league" just last year by none other than Kevin Garnett.
A Nets official confirmed that he is probably the most cost-effective candidate at present, because the Nets can absorb his $5.2 million salary without giving up a body, as they own a $5 million trade exception from the Kenyon Martin deal.
Thorn cannot talk about another team's player, but when asked whether he would be willing to use his trade exception for a veteran big body, he responded, "If there is someone we can use, absolutely. I'd be willing to do that, and we might have to."
The Nets have also inquired about P.J. Brown of the Hornets, but his contract has 2 1/2 years to run and averages $8 million per season, which would require that the Nets use the $10 million trade exception acquired in the Kerry Kittles swap.
That Clippers pick (I assume you mean the 1st round pick) is pretty juicy since it would be unprotected next year. Tough call, especially since Marshall is a FA.
Yep a first round for a possible FA Dont sound so good...

I'd say, ship our pick then.

That's a choice they can make, but it would likely leave them without a 1st round pick this year (but 2 2nd rounders) in what should be a pretty good draft.
There's no rush to do something. The trade deadline is late February. The last thing we want is for the Nets to give away assets for a pending free agent or a high priced player who doesn't fit.
I'd rather try to get by with what we have. Soon 10 day contracts will let us add another big man.
With long-term money invested in Carter, Ratner said the bank hasn't been broken and that he would have no problem with Thorn using either a $5 million or $10 million trade exception to acquire a big man.

I don't think Wilcox will be traded, but I'd like him over Marshall too.
A big reason why I like Marshall is that he will bring some scoring balance. He can shot, and he can post up a bit. We can't always rely on just Kidd, RJ and Carter for offense.

Actually he might be. Not to New Jersey though but New Orleans. Wilcox has trade written all over him with the way Dunleavy has been hinting and using him.

I think one of the reasons he hasn't been playing in LA is his lack of defense, which is a reason he might not be a good fit in NJ.
