Vince Carter admits it: When he first joined the Nets, he had no idea what Nenad Krstic's name was.
"I really didn't," said Carter, who plays his first home game tonight when the Nets host the Pacers. "They called him 'Curly' or whatever. I thought that was his real name for a long time."
So, to Carter, that seven-footer with the non-stop work ethic was just another Tom, Dick or Nenad. The nickname actually is "Kurl-lay," a Serbian nickname for Krstic, from a name game that makes about as much sense as pig Latin. Coach Lawrence Frank shortened it to "Curly" in training camp and it stuck.
Wow, Vince approves? Now I'm glad I kept him on my KVBL team.
