Free Agency!
since we all know that our season and championship candidacy ended before it even started, lets have a look at the FA market and trade options. The near draft will also be a factor (and im desperate to a high lottery pick), but we will examine it later because we still dont know exactly who will declare and who will fit the team best. players who could help us in this summer FA market:
PG: b-jack,knight,watson,lue,best,f. williams,m. williams
SG: simmons,rush,green,murray,bell,d. brown,g. wallace, kittles
SF: griffin,rogers,korver
PF: swift,brown,marshall
C : curry,chandler,dalembert
we need a good backup PG. best did a pretty good job. planinic and vaughn are SCRUBS. they should be kicked out. b-jack, watson and knight are long-shots but arent "crazy" options.
we also need a good shooter and an athletic wing player with good defensive skills. raja bell fits both. devin brown fits the description too, but doesnt do it extremely good. simmons is unlikely due to his breakout season and money demands (i assume he will demand more than we can) but he's a great all-around player. rush, green and korver are all very good shooters that wont cost us much. green is a bit undersized, but he tops the other two on defense, one on one skills and pentration ability. he should be a good pick. murray his even a greater scorer, one on one player and could make a big contribution on offence but will likely demand much money. g. wallace is extremely athletic and a good defender- fits perfectly the second player we need. kittles and rogers, 2 ex-nets are also possible options but it also depends on their money demands and their willingness to come of the bench.
this is only our backcourt reinforcement and ONLY FROM NEXT YEAR FREE AGENCY. soon i will publish my opinion on trade options and the FA who can help strengthen our frontcourt, if anyone cares.

Why do you consider Planinic a scrub?

Because he's never seen him play before.

I wouldn't mind bringing Kittles back...
I think he would still get 25-30 minutes a game.
It's all about the chemistry.
Bring Luscious back as a backup PG.
Dunno who would fit chemistry-wise for PF.

I think the Nets will definitely make a deal for a big man in the next couple of weeks, and reports are that they are will to use most of the large trade exception, so
a. They aren't throwing this season away at all.
b. Until we know what they give up, and what they bring in, it's hard to completely evaluate their summer needs.
But for conversation's sake, I'll go along with thread with the premise that the roster won't change much before the summer. Looking at the current assets:
Kidd - Starting PG - 35 MPG
Carter - Starting SG - 35-38 MPG
Jefferson - Starting SF - 38 MPG
Krstic - Starting C - 35 MPG
Collins - Ideally, he's your bench PF/C at 20-25 MPG
Planinic - Strongly disagree with your view on him. He's got talent, and should be a 15-25 minute combo guard for the next few years.
Mercer - Some instant offense off the bench. Not for major minutes, though.
Buford and Scalabrine are both questionable for next year at this point.
PF is obviously the major hole, as well as another big body off the bench (which could be Jabari Smith, but he still has to prove himself over the next 50 games).
Abdur-Rahim would be great, but surely out of the Nets' price-range. Marshall might be my top choice. Swift could fit well, but also might be too expensive. Not sold on Dalembert.
For the bench body, Mark Madsen could be decent.
For the draft, I would look to get another big man if there one, but a 2/3 could be nice too.

My dream pickup would be Swift, but I would settle for Marshall.

i have my reasons. i have seen him in europe, i see him in the NBA and he has an enormous talent and an excellent size but no physical skills at all. he can be a good european player, but i think his potential will never be executed.
jmk
im sure u barely know where he played in europe. dont answer that. if u do know, 1000% u never saq him playing there. he cant lead a team. no physical skills. nothing to offer. thats it.
schub
i dislike collins. i think he is extremely overpayed. i think he should be traded. this summer we have 5 EX-ATHLETIC F/C who are extremely talented and have great potential- Swift, Brown, Chandler, Curry, Dalembert. walker and SAR are also FA, but i dislike both- they have no aggresiveness and no D, and they will probobly ask for lot of money. i think we should chase marshall and sign him IN ADDITION to one of the five superior athletes. i think that krstic shouldnt start, at list at this point. maybe at the end of the season he would adjust his talent and level to the NBA. he need to know when to make the foul and not foul out after 2 minutes.
anyway, sure, marshall+swift/brown/chandler/curry/dalembert cost much more than 10 mill and im sure ratner isnt that commited to winning. thats why we should trade kidd and collins, but thats another subject.
Petey
i agree, but i think marshall is a must-have. after him, swift will be the best option for us from the TOP-5. i believe that chandler or curry will be resigned and the other will be a FA. so we got one of them and swift ,who will leave memphis. brown is a mystery for me. i have no clue about the intentions of the wizards to resign him. i have a strong guess that Dalembert will leave and he is a very good option as well.

Who's the most KMart like out of all those players?
Now that we have JKidd, Vince, and RJ, I don't think we need to replace KMart's scoring at PF...but we still need his defense, rebounding, and shot blocking...

all these athletic freaks are a bit of k-mart (physical skills). chandler, curry and dalembert are more C and brown and swift are more PF. chandler has done almost nothing during his short career (he was projected to put up somthing like 15 12 4). curry was supposed to be the next shaq- very strong and quick but he has a bad character, unlike chand. brown is another high-school player from the 2001 draft. dalembert have rised above expectations last year. he can very well be one of the top shotblockers on the league. he is very aggresive, a pretty good defensive player 1 on 1 and an extremely effective presence down low. he is a bit of a foul prone and he started the year very slowly. can be a 10 ppg, 10 rpg, 3bpg center. he, along with swift, interest me the most, and not the 3 2001 draft C's- brown , chand and curry.

I would rather have Swift because with his low post game, it would create more shots for RJ and Carter, while Marshall would space the floor more by taking part in shooting from the outside.
Marshall would not be a bad 2nd place prize.

Not over Curry, but of the players you mentioned, Brown, Chandler, and Curry, they are RFA. If they sign a MLE offer sheet, their teams will be quick to match it. We have little to no shot at them.
