Comparing some "Trios" (1-2-3) around the league...
There is a discussion going on in the main forum about trios in the NBA.
They were discussing the trios of... the Lakers (Kobe-Butler-Odom), Wizards (Arenas- Hughes-Jamison)... where than I brought up our trio and the Pistons of Billups, Hamilton and Prince.
Based purely on numbers the Wizards' trio would be the hands down winner, but I don't beleive in pure numbers. I think you have to look at them in context with the other players on their team and how they fit in. By that I mean it's obvious Mihm's is having a great season (for his standards), Wallace (Ben) goobles up boards, Sheed can score, which effects the numbers of the players we lumped together.
How would you rank the trios?
I would rank them as:
1) Nets (Kidd, Carter, Jefferson)
Kidd is the best rebounding guard in the league, not just the best rebounding point guard. In fact he is a better rebounder than some PFs and Centers in our league. Carter is one of the top 10 offensive players in the league, if not top 5. And RJ is a jack of all trades. He is an above average defender, above average rebounder for SF, and an average play-maker at worst.
2) Lakers (Kobe, Butler, Odom)
Kobe, well he is Kobe. He is a top 5 offensive player in the league, and you could argue he is a top 5 player overall. He is only 2nd to Kidd in triple doubles this year. Odom is a solid PF, and certainly above average SF, you could argue top 10, if not 5. He is an excellent play-maker for his position, and can rebound well. Butler, well he is just there to make the trio, but he has shown flashes, though not as much as he showed his rookie year.
3) Wizards (Arenas, Hughes, Jamison)
I think the Wizards could be easily flip flopped with the Pistons. Do we know if Hughes can keep these figures up a whole season? He has only done as well 1 other time in his career. Any betting man/woman would pick no right? But 2 all-stars does say something.
4) Pistons (Billups, Hamilton, Prince)
They don't have the numbers of the Wizards, but the Pistons have better players outside of the trios. Besides these 3 in double figures, McDyess and Rasheed are in double figures. Ben Wallace is just behind at 9.4 ppg. B. Wallace is rebounding like he always does, Rasheed is at 7+ for the season, and McDyess is at 6.5 rpg, in only 24 minutes per game. With that, Prince is still grabbing a respectable numbers of 5+ with a block a game. Yeah, pretty impressive for a SF.
5) Suns (Nash, Johnson, Q. Richarson)
Don't have the number or the history of the other trios, but definitely a top trio in the league. All can shoot, Q is an pretty good rebounder for his size. And we all know what Nash is doing, but lets not forget Johnson was an able play-maker when they trade Marbury last year. You throw Nash with Amare and Marion, and they are the top trio hands down for me though.

DetBNyce wanted me to add:
Kings; Bibby-Mobley-Peja.
Schilly wanted me to add:
Orlando; Francis-Christie-Hill.
I think they fall above the others though.
Same order w/
6) Kings; Bibby-Mobley-Peja
7) Orlando; Francis-Christie-Hill
Any others?

Is it 1-2-3 combos? Then shouldn't it be Atkins, Kobe, Butler/Odom?
Either way, I'll take the Nets' group over any of them next year.
And I'd put the Detroit group over Washington. Wiz need to show me more defensively, and when it counts.

The arguement came down to 1-2-3 combos. We've seen the Lakers run out Kobe-Butler-Odom on us.

Well, just looking at the Nets' trio, you've got three all-stars (Kidd and RJ would have been there if their seasons hadn't been shortened), a future hall of famer, two of the top ten players in the league, and a young player that all agree is on his way to stardom.

Forget it. This is strictly perimeter trios, I see.

It was breed from the idea of perimeter trios in the main NBA forum here.
It's obvious, overall it's any trio from the Suns or Kings this season.

IMHO, McDyess, Wallace, and Wallace has the most potential for being the scariest trio in the league.

Those are bigs, and there is very little ball handing skills there, as Rasheed would be there.
If you want to talk about Bigs and Small Trios, it would have to be hands down the Suns, Marion, Amare and Nash at this point.

Ans what about the Spurs? I think that Ginobili, Duncan and Parker are better.

Better than the Suns? Sure, that is debatable.
