Nets respond to Bowen
http://www.nypost.com/sports/nets/40451.htm
Quote:
"How many other guys got sprained ankles? It's a technique the guy uses," continued Thorn, who wants the league to enforce the ruling better.
"If you called the foul and the guy knows he can't get away with it, he's not going to do it. That's what was disappointing. It's a foul. It's a very dangerous play. It's a ridiculous play. Someone could break a leg."
|
Quote:
"To avoid any kind of conflict or confrontation, I mentioned it to one of the refs before," Carter said. "The first shot I took, I was kind of thinking, 'I remember from last year it was kind of questionable.' But I knew to move out of the way. I mentioned it to one of the refs, he said, 'OK,' and kept going."
"You gotta do something," Carter said. "I've been in this position before where the same things happen. There's so much you can take."

Thorn, who did not contact the league, used harsher language than his coach: "I'm old school. I don't mind grabbing and holding on defense if you can get away with it," Thorn said. "But what (Bowen) did was clearly dangerous, and it's up to those in the league who adjudicate it to take care of it.
"It's not the first time this has happened, either. That same thing ruined Vince's season last year. It also happened to Dirk Nowitzki and Tracy McGrady. (Bowen) is being allowed to get away with it. The refs would say, 'Well, Carter got the shot off.' What does that have to do with anything? Going up under a guy on a jump shot is very dangerous, and that practice must be stopped."

There's something utterly classic about Rod Thorn saying, "I'm old school."

Re: Nets respond to Bowen
That video is pretty damning. He clearly kicks out his leg when he's otherwise jumping straight up and down.
Almost as bad as the drop kick he gave Szczerbiak that one time.

Well if Thorn's old school then Vince should have really gone off on him NO. He got himself ejected and never intended to do anything to Bowen. If Bowen was to get roughed up he would stop. I mean, thats what would happen if this was "old school"

That was my favorite. It was like a flying ninja kick to the groin.
Could you imagine how Marv Albert would call that?
Noooooo.

I rally hate to see stuff like that man! It sickens me, especially when I think back at the play that basically robbed us of RJ: with Chauncey Billups taking RJ's legs out from under him! Come on, this crap has to be stopped!!! It's like the NFL reviewing dirty hits and slapping fines on players for "dirty" plays...the NBA has to start protecting it's stars, otherwise it will be a league full of mediocre caliber leg-whippers in the all-star game while the real stars are home mending bones!!!
I say, the next guy who pulls a leg-whip scissors-kung-fu move like that again, should be put in a room with Ron Artest right after a projectile beer shower!
I guarantee a safer game as a result!
