Remember when Collins wasn't the Nets best defender
OK...So Kidd is still a better defender...but this is my gripe about the Team.
Last year it was Martin, Kittles and Jefferson were all great on ball defenders. Kidd was a great help defender. And Collins was a 'solid' defender and clogged the paint.
Now its "Collins should make the defensive team"????? Collins the best defender on the nets???
I agree, Collins defense this year has been very good...
but this just shows you how far away this team is from the defensive team we have had the past three seasons. When Jefferson gets back next season, things will be better, but the great defensive net team of the past is no more.
I think this is my worry about next years team. The Nets will still start Vince and Krstic, while offesively gifted players, they are not the defenders that kittles and martin were. Is this a bad thing? I don't know...just an observation.
..........sorry for ranting.........
GO NETS!

Re: Remember when Collins wasn't the Nets best defender
Rather than do that comparison, why not take a look at all the big time players Collins has shut down this season, including KMart? He owns Yao, holding him to 6 points. He played well against Nowitzki holding him 6 points under his average. He played well against CWebb, holding him to 12 points.
By the way, coaches vote for the all-Defensive team and there are only two teams. Martin has never made either team and last year in Defensive Player of the Year voting, he finished with 2 votes. Artest won with 425 votes. Finishing just above KMart? Clifford Robinson with 5.

Re: Remember when Collins wasn't the Nets best defender
I have no problem with Collins defense...I think he's been fantastic defensively all year.
My worry is about the team as a whole. I think the fact that Collins is now our 'outstanding' defender, really puts a perspective on how good this team is defensively.
Once again, i'm ranting....

Re: Remember when Collins wasn't the Nets best defender
We used similar arguments last year to prove KMart deserved consideration for DPOY, but we all saw how we argue and preceive players is different than how writers do.
Back to the topic, yes our team has slide horribly this past year, defensively and offensively.

Re: Remember when Collins wasn't the Nets best defender
Martin is indeed one of the best defenders in the NBA, top 5 and maybe top 3 on the interior. I think he is better than Garnett and he's just a monster 1 on 1 defender, he's so intense and aggresive. However, this wasn't enough. In the playoffs, he game max effort on D and u can see the results. Great, great defender and it's a shame we don't have him.

"I'm going to be one of the best. Nobody's stronger than me. Nobody can really stop me at my position. I can play point guard through (power forward) effectively. And I can shoot the ball and play defense. I have one of the most complete games in the league." -- Ron Artest, the man, the legend.

"They better not put me in the All-Star Game. I won't shoot, but I'll dominate that easy game. I'll be playing hard defense. I'll be foulin'. I'll be flagrant fouling. Everyone will be like, 'What are you doing?'" -- Ron Artest.

The team has certainly evolved. Who was the best scorer last year? RJ? Was he a real go-to scorer last year?
The team has changed.

No, he is not. Coaches dont think so. Writers dont think so. It's a homer position.

Honestly I always thought some Net fans overrated his 'D'. When I think of 'D' I prefer controlled defense. How often do Artest and Garnett foul out of games? Their 'D' is in there from start to end, and you don't have to worry if he'll get benched for the last few sessions of a 7th game in a series.
