The Heat made the better deal.
Shaq is obviously the most dominant player in the NBA, but since the Nets could not acquire Shaq for 2 #1s, Zos contract, a washed up Atrain and Eric Williams, the comparison is somewhat irrelevant.

The point is that the OWNERS will. Shaq wants an extension for four or five years whether they win or nor. A $100+ million contract is a huge risk, particularly for a 7 footer.

Besides, as you have wisely noted, not only did Thorn get Carter for trinkets, baubles and two mid round draft choices, he got the Raptors to take the Nets worst contract, Mourning's.

It can argued that Riley or Thorn made the best trade of the year, but there is no doubt that Babcock made the worst trade of the year.

The Nets couldn't have acquired Shaq if they had offered Kidd & RJ. Shaq had no interest in being traded to the Nets, so you have no point.
