OK, before the Kidd fans go berserk, I am a Kidd fan, just not a blind fanatic. Kidd is a first ballot HOFer, one of the best PGs ever. He took the Nets to to 2 consecutive Finals and on one leg got us close to 3 Finals appearances.

The trade. Clippers offered Maggette and Wilcox for Allen and were turned down. We should offer Kidd and Mercer for Maggette and Wilcox. Clips are under the cap and this will generate a $7.8 Mil exception.

If the salary cap is increased, we can go directly after SAR. If the cap is too tight, we can offer our 1st round pick next year for SAR and use the $7.8 Mil exception. if the trades are simultaneous, then we can do 7.8 times 115%, which would mean $9 Mil as the starting salary for SAR.

Kidd's (plus Mercer) salary will bring us SAR, Wilcox and Maggette. We pick up n All-Star PF and dramatically improve our bench with 2 players that would start on most other teams.

Carter, RJ and SAR and Maggette are capable of averaging 85 points a game. Maggette is 6th man and backs up both Vince and RJ. Wilcox (and Collins) can backup either Krstic or SAR. With Krstic, SAR, Wilcox and Collins, we have the big men to go against the Heat or Pistons.

Carter and RJ become the floor generals, and both are good passers. We use our #1 pick this year for a PG, use the MLE or other exception to go after a PG (if we can't pry away Dickau, then I'd settle for Speedy), or even use Vaughn as the starting PG. While we go from having a HOFer at PG to having that being the weakest part of our starting team, the overall team improves offensively and defensively with a vastly deeper bench. There are times the Nets will be able to play Carter, Maggette, RJ, SAR and Krstic. I'd like to see detroit or SA's defenses try to stop that line-up. Once we build a decent lead, bring in Vaughn, Maggette, RJ, Wilcox and Twin to play D.

With Kidd and Brandt, Clips will still have cap space and are better able to attract Redd or Allen, who they want to sign this summer. Kidd, Redd or Allen and Brandt make the Clips a good team.

Nets starters: Vaughn, Carter, RJ, SAR, Krstic; Bench: Maggette, Wilcox, Planinic, Collins, #1 pick (PG), MLE (PG ?), Bueff. One more vet = 13.
Salary approximately $54 Mil.
You cannot win a championship with Vaughn as your first PG.

That's a team that won't have enough shots to go around. Maggette and Brand can't share the ball, it'll be hard for him to share with SAR, Carter and Jefferson.

Well, the only trade that was somehow reasonable was Baron+Magloire+picks/more players for Kidd and Collins but now that Baron was traded its can't be made.

Re: power forward

To all those who insist that we need an AllStar at the PG spot: It's a team game. Lakers had the best player last year and they lost. Bulls didn't have an AllStar PG, but they had the best player, another top 15 player, and a quality supporting cast.

Nets with Carter, RJ and Krstic make an excellent core. Carter is easily a top 5 player. His game has changed and if you listen to his interviews and look at his assists and rebounds, it's obvious he's learned to develop a complete game. Look at the way he feeds Nenad and the relationship he has developed with Veal. He's grown up, going to be a father, and he's showing genuine leadership.

RJ was playing at an AllStar level, playing without Kidd and Carter, and still playing very hard before he went out. He will be at least a top 15 player next year, As for Krstic, I expect him to be in the AllStar game within 2 years. Look at his dramatic improvement since the AllStar break.

Next year's Carter, RJ and Krstic would have given a MJ, Pippen and Cartwright a run for the money in a 3 on 3.

Having Maggette and Wilcox coming off the bench would be hugh. Having SAR as the starting PF means any doubleteaming of Carter or RJ would leave either the other or Krstic or SAR open.

The NBA Nets never had a player like Carter either. I think Kidd lost a half step, and looking at his 4 year contract and it's implications against the coming CBA, by trading Kidd, we build an outstanding team, at less cost, with young players locked into 3 or more year contracts (except Wilcox).

Wilcox has looked good offensively under one set of circumstances this season: when playing in place of Chris Kaman, meaning when he played CENTER alongside Brand. If you look at Clipper box scores when he was scoring and rebounding big at the beginning of the season and now again at the end, you would be hard pressed to find a game where he and Kaman played together.

And it should be noted that Dunleavy has said the main reason he didn't play was his lousy defense. He would not replace Collins as a starter. He would not replace Robinson off the bench.

All that work for something that will never happen. It is also illogical on its face.

As much as Kidd has done for the Nets, basketball is still a business and superstars still get traded. This summer, Kidd's trade value should be at it's peak. I advocate a trade, but won't be disappointed if it doesn't happen, because next year we should be favored to play in the Conf Finals.

Well I don't think any of the big 3 will be traded this offseason as they are the face of the Nets marketing push.

Last spring KMart was part of "the face of the Nets marketing push". Marketing in the sport field is a very "du-jour" kinda thing.
