OT: Minor changes that should be made in the NBA

1) Jump balls. Its ridiculous that if a tall and short player are both grabbing at the ball, the jump ball is between those two. Even though both players had the same right to the ball, it is obvious the taller player will usually win. Instead a jump ball jumpers should be anyone of the floor.

2) Hesitation free throws. OK, shaq gets 1-2 extra free throws a game. He simply fakes a free throw, hesitates, lets someone on the other team put a foot in the lane, and then release. I believe the NBA should either make this ileagal, or simply allow players to go into the lane if a player hesitates and fakes them out.

3) Offensive Charges that are drawn should be a kept statistics. In fact, drawing an offensive charge may be the most critical play in basketball. Its an automatic turnover, usually preventing an easy basket, and also picks up a foul on the opposition. Credit should be given to the players that put their body on the line to make these great plays.

Do you know how many flops there would be if this happened? Every game would just be full of flops everywhere because of guys trying to build up their charge stats. It would be terrible and unwatchable.

make flopping illegal

actually it is illegal, its a technical foul for attempting to influence the referees, they just need to enforce it...

You mean flopping doesn't occur now?

Re: OT: Minor changes that should be made in the NBA

1. How about fire or fine (heavy) referees who made wrong call (or did not make one). That will teach them a lesson.

2. Like the NFL, calls should be challenged. If the call stands, charge the team a timeout.

Time and again, officials always (easily) get away with bad calls.

Add another award, "Flopper Of the Year", or "Best Actor". That will prevent floppers from doing it in a regular basis.

On jump balls they should use Alternate Possession like college

Replays would completely and totally disrupt the flow of the game. And that's what basketball has on football and baseball, is flow. Bad idea, IMO.

no. a team who is up can go after a tie-up and get the ball back and screw over the team that is down. the jump ball is the fairest thing they could do. unless if they want to stop play and flip a coin. thats the one thing i college ball i hate.

- i hate these ticky-tack fouls ref's call. let the game be a little physical, these are grown muscular men after all. they call ticky-tack fouls then don't call the obvious fouls. so my main problem is that the NBA needs to somehow get the refs to be consistant with their calls. either be consistantly bad or good, just be consistant for both teams. and LETS THE PLAYERS PLAY THE GAME! i don't want a ref's call to change the direction of a series by maybe "giving" a team a victory.

Re: OT: Minor changes that should be made in the NBA

How about simply calling travelling? That extra step means that the defensive player's coordination is thrown way off. It provides a serious advantage to offensive superstar X, and a real detriment to whoever's trying to play defense without forearms and so on.

Same thing goes for players taking a couple of huge steps when they receive a pass. Catching the ball in midstride shouldn't mean you get 2 extra on top of it. By the same token, when your feet start out 18 feet from the basket and you manage to step out past the three point line as you catch the ball, something's amiss.

Re: OT: Minor changes that should be made in the NBA

the court should be expanded a little bit to open up more room for players to be creative and so the paint is not always so crowded where players get hacked all the time. kind of like what the olympics do for hockey. expand the sides and behind the net and play opens up more. maybe the nba could expand its sidelines out a little. i'd like to see that extra room for guys like vince, kobe, tmac to show off more of their creativity, but there would also be a lot more open shots which some people may not like. just a thought
