Prospect Grading Scales
For the different "types" of players I would like to develop a grading scale (1-10 with 1 as low) along the lines of:
Tall, Athletic Shooting Guard
1: Deshawn Stevenson
2: Ron Mercer
3:
4:
5:
6:
7:
8:
9:
10: Michael Jordan
Uberathletic Power Forward
1: Kenyon
2:
3: Chris Wilcox
4: Stromile Swift
5:
6:
7:
8:
9:
10: Amare
High Potential Combo Forward
1:
2: Darius Miles
3: Tim Thomas
4:
5:
6:
7:
8:
9:
10: KG

Re: Prospect Grading Scales
Micheal Jordan= 10
Ron mercer=2
Amare Stoudemire= 10
Kenyon Martin= 1
This scale seems a bit odd IMO.

Since I started this, I wanted to avoid any perception of bias and went ahead and put Kenyon as the lowest grade. Besides, we can all find an article that lists Kenyon as the most overrated player in the NBA, so lets just cut to the chase and admit he sucks.
Feel free to adjust the grades as you see fit. What I listed was just a straw man to get the ball rolling.

Re: Prospect Grading Scales
Screw that, Kenyon is not a 1. We know he was a beast when he was with the Nets. A 6 or 7 at LEAST. Wilcox and Swift are not fit to carry KMart's bags.

Re: Prospect Grading Scales
and the difference is not athleticism. the difference between KMart and the other two is basketball IQ and--at least in the case of Swift--drive.
KMart is a walking advertisement for advising great athletic forwards to stay in school.

Re: Prospect Grading Scales
Feel free to update the scales with your opinions. I will not touch Kenyon's placement with a 10 foot pole (insert bad joke about Chad Ford raving about 10 foot Polish basketball player)

What got me thinking about this was people talking about the great potential of Marvin Williams in one breath and then comparing him to Marion in the other. To me, if Marion is the best that Marvin can become, then there is no way I would take him over Bogut.

I was envisioning a more general scale on which to judge players, especially when it comes to discussing their potential.

Re: Prospect Grading Scales
What would you expect Bogut to become? Maybe Brad Miller for me, is Brad Miller a better player than Shawn Marion?

Re: Prospect Grading Scales
I see Bogut surpassing Miller by the end of his second season. I'm not sure who to compare him to, so that is part of the reason for wanting to develop these scales.
