May is benefiting from the Boozer Halo effect
Because Boozer was a short, overweight college center from the ACC that worked himself into shape and achieved some NBA success, people are fawning over May.
Just like Boozer, May will need to be in the best possible situation to produce. Houston would be an ideal situation for him because Yao would do for him what Big Z did for Boozer.
Could the Nets be a good fit for May? Possibly, but I doubt it.

I think he can make a nice living cleaning up after the big 4 of the Nets. He has a nose for the ball and uses his size to put himself in good position under the boards.

Re: May is benefiting from the Boozer Halo effect
I like May just from watching him play. Nothing to do with Boozer. He has a high BB IQ, soft hands and he plays hard. I rather have Splitter than May, but if we wind up with May I won't be too disappointed.

He used his size in college. How many players did he go up against that he couldn't physically dominate?
Danny Fortson was a far better college player than May and he has to make his living by being a brute.

Sean May and Carlos Boozer play two completely different games.

I don't think Forston had anywhere near the skills of May. Fortson used his size to overpower small college players. May has good post moves and knows how to finish around the rim. Sheldon Williams of Duke is a very good big man and he played great against him a few times. The only thing May and Fortson have in common is physical appearance in body.

Sean may is skilled and has very good hands, but we need a basher, who would get us 10 boards a game.

1) Fortson had better skills and better hands. He was a much higher ranked High Schooler than May and he didn't just overpower people. He has an old mans game with a ton of post moves, but no lift. Everything Danny did, he did with his feet on the ground. Danny shot 62% his junior, last, season in college.
2) Sheldon is a very good college big man. That's it. It is just like saying Diogu outplayed Frye. It doesn't mean that much when talking about the NBA.

I only mentioned Sheldon because he is a legit bigman in college, not a SF playing PF. I think May has more lift than Fortson and I see good things in him. My only concern is if he can play PF and not be an undersized C. I think he can do it. He is more athletic than he looks.

I don't remember exactly, but I know May was in the top 10-15 of his class. How can Fortson be "much higher ranked?" Also, if you're implying that May simply overpowers people, that is not the case at all. He is a very skilled big man.

Danny was top 5 and I recall May being closer to 20 because of his weight.
No, I'm not implying that May simply overpowers people to score. He does overpower people to get rebounding position. On offense he does have a nice array of post moves that are effective against college big men. My comment was that Fortson didn't simply overpower people.

We are in complete agreement. And historically, May has had much worse weight problems than Boozer had. He could remake his body, but I don't see it happening.
