Just how bad is the Nets' rebounding?
Do the Nets really need a solid rebounder? Should getting a rebounding PF or center be the Nets' top priority?

The rebounding analysis is excellent and caused me to think about things in a new way. Excellent work, Dumpy!
Now you just have to prove that Jason Collins is the best in the league at preventing opponents from grabbing offensive rebounds.
That would be the holy grail of this board. A hard stat that defines the worth of Collins.

Great write up Dumpy.
I think there are several issues that you haven't covered that really can't be shown with stats.
Like if you had a guy whom was capable of grabbing 10-15 boards night in, night out, how much faster does your team get into the offense on the other end.
How a big rebounder would save JKidd, RJ and Carter from banging in the post.
How trigger the break to Kidd at the arch, instead of him rebounding would help the break, and the team get into the offense.

You make some good points. However, I note that Kidd was rebounding at the same--or greater--rate during the seasons the Nets went to the finals, and that didn't seem to hinder their fast break. Also, a large number of rebounds those seasons were grabbed by K-Mart--who often FINISHED the break.

Re: Just how bad is the Nets' rebounding?
BTW, look at the offensive rebounds in this game (esp. the second quarter) if you are looking for a reason why Miami is catching up . . .

Kidd may be grabbing rebounds at the same rate, but I think it's apparent this is not the same fastbreak team. Carter doesn't get out like Kittles, and well Krstic doesn't get out like KMart either. So to create high percentage plays on odd man advantages, if Kidd gets outletted a pass further from the hoop, that is sure to help.
