There have been times recently when Carter has been too much of an unselfish player, especially near the end of close games, which was the same pattern he fell into earlier in the season. If ever there were a player who needed to be more of a ball hog, Carter is it, and he realizes it.

"I'm trying not to get caught up in, 'Oh, I need to get 35,'" Carter said yesterday. "I just want to be aggressive and effective."

Carter himself says this is a different time with different circumstances. Last season, the Nets were without the injured Richard Jefferson in their playoff push. Carter isn't being counted on to post the superhuman numbers he did a year ago. Of course, if he does, the Nets won't complain.

Vince needs to back it up it seems as if all the focus is on him and rightfully so because the team will only go as far as Vince carries them.

Couldn't agree with that more. He has to demand the ball and take over. Watching the Raps-Nets game the other day...there were about a 6-8 minute stretch in 4th where he didn't even touch the ball. He wasn't even part of the office or interested. Finally with three minutes left he decided to get into the game and get the ball and the rest is history.
