Re: OT: Babcock Didn't Want To Buyout Mourning
It was worth the millions they paid him to leave just so they wouldn't have to listen to him cry all the time.

Re: OT: Babcock Didn't Want To Buyout Mourning
If you look at that trade now, it was more of a salary dump than anything else. They have saved about $45 million over the course of Carter's and Rose's contracts.
Ironic that the Nets still have the remaining pick from the Martin trade and the Raptors dont have any picks left, having traded the Nuggets pick to the Knicks.

A pair of second rounders

Embry, who took over the GM portfolio when Rob Babcock was fired last Thursday, sent centre/forward Aaron Williams to the New Orleans Hornets for a pair of second-round draft picks.

Well to be fair, that was after Stern changed the league policy on carrying weapons and KG could no longer distract Zach with his pump, uzi and couple M-16s.

Re: OT: Babcock Didn't Want To Buyout Mourning
A) Shows us Babcock wasn't as big an idiot as everyone thought he was.
B) Raptors still have their own pick, don't they?
C) Raptors traded a team cancer (Jalen Rose) along with Denver's first round pick for Antonio (expiring contract) Davis. So Raptors traded a cancer and a non-lottey pick for the Bird Rights to an old bigman that can still contribute and $16 mil off their salary cap. Are you saying that was a bad trade for the Raptors?

Re: OT: Babcock Didn't Want To Buyout Mourning
When Babcock made this deal, I believe he had two objectives in mind.
1. Dump as much salary as possible.
2. Get Carter out of town immediately so the team could start building a new identity.
I think those were both worthy ideas and they have been successful so far.
By hanging onto Carter longer, they would only have delayed the inevitable. By doing the deal sooner rather than later, he gave his team the chance to get through the rough times right away and get back on track more quickly.
Babcock deserves another chance to run a team. He made unpopular decisions and lost his job to a guy who built a great team from nothing.

So basically they traded with the Nets for 2 2nd rounders, Joey Graham, Eric Williams and having to pay out Zo instead of expiring deals with the Knicks.
