Is Kidd happy with the offense?
All this jaw-jacking, yip-yapping, snip-snappin' about how VC/RJ are not happy with the offense got me thinking, is Kidd happy with the offensive sets? He doesn't have the ball in his hands as much as did in years before. His role seems limited to spot up shooting which isn't a strong suit. Kidd had a phenominal year considering he didn't have the stallions around him to run. K-Mart, Kerry and those guys (check sig) took the fastbreak with them. Will the Nets ever be a running team again? I don't know. With the NBA being more open with the game paces and more high scoring and uptempo games, it would be smart for Thorn to get players who can run the break. That seems to be the best attribute for Kidd which is making players better and controlling the break. Also, Kidd has to have the ball in his hands more often. Whether that is to install a new offensive system or whatever but Kidd needs to dominate the ball. Agree/Disagree? Anyone want to smack me around a little bit after posting this thread?

Re: Is Kidd happy with the offense?
he's always wanted to throw it down low to a post player. I'm sure he still wants that in the offfense.
The fastbreak is gone leaving a half court offense that was too predictable. This team needs to get fast and athletic on the break again. The VC 'show em what you workin wit' system doesn't cut it.
Change is good.

Re: Is Kidd happy with the offense?
The offense is fine. We score as many points as when we were a fast breaking team a few years ago.
The defense is broken.

Re: Is Kidd happy with the offense?
the nba changed in favor of the way nets used to play. how ironic? we definitly need to run and gun. just push it down their throats. we would be the eastern version of the suns. but the fact that we can play defense would give us a trophy.

Re: Is Kidd happy with the offense?
I'm sure the only number Kidd cares about is the number of wins the team racks up.

Nets scored 93.8 PPG which was 24th in the league.
The Nets allowed 92.4 PPG which was the 6th lowest total in the league.
Offense is a bigger issue than D, especially offensive punch off the bench.

Re: Is Kidd happy with the offense?
Fair enough, Petey. I see things a little differently though.
2001-2002
Points scored (per game, of course): 96.2
Points against: 92.0
2002-2003
Points scored: 95.4
Points against: 90.1
2003-2004
Points scored: 90.3
Points against: 87.8
2004-2005
Points scored: 91.4
Points against: 92.9
2005-2006
Points scored: 93.8
Points against: 92.4
I think that D needs to get a little better as well as a little more bench scoring.

Re: Is Kidd happy with the offense?
The rules have been geared to increase scoring.
So it's understandable the numbers would go up (PPG allowed), and Krstic/Carter are not KMart/Kittles defensively, they certainly bring more offensive punch.
Just doesn't seem the Nets were lacking that offensive punch off the bench.

With the personnel the Nets have, I think defense is satisfatory (6th in ppg allowed). To improve, the'd have to be close to the top of the league. Maybe Wright's increased minutes will give them a further boost.

lol 6th in the league isn't good enough for you? Plus the stats you list don't help your case about our D being broken. If anything, it proves our defense has been on par with past years.

1. I'm not sure why that would make you laugh out loud...i guess you have a funny sense of humor.
2. 6th in the league as far as points allowed, right? That doesn't necessarily mean we had the 6th best defense. Our point differential is a lot closer this year than it has been in some years. I think we should be forcing more turnovers (which in turn, would force us to run more).

Thanks. You have to factor in our style of play when analyzing this numbers. We're primarily a 1/2 court team that takes up most of the 24 second clock each possession....which means less possessions and less points scored. But if you looked at points/possession, I think we'd be slightly better (anyone have this info? pretty obscure stat!).
That also explains why our points against is low compared to most of the league. It's easier to score more against a fast breaking/early offense team because you are getting the ball back more. I don't think we were the 6th best defensive team last year. In fact, in the miami series, there were many times we couldn't get stops when we wanted to.
