After a couple of games, it seems like the Marcus Williams of the preseason is not the same Marcus we're seeing in the games. He's had sequences where he's just iso'd out on the perimeter and dribbles too much (a la Stevie Francis) and he's hesitating on his shot now. He seems slightly lost some times and often misses easy passes to guys cutting towards the basket.
Which brings me to my second point: is it just me, or is everyone ignoring Krstic on the pic-&-roll? Kidd, Carter, Marcus, and Wright ALL have failed to consistently deliver the ball ot Krstic when he rolls to the basket (Kidd delivered to him a few times for jumpers against Washington). It seems clear as day to me when he rolls to the basket, he's wide open and I can't believe they're not hitting him on the pic-&-roll when he goes to the basket. Even if he doesn't score on the play, it'll force the D to collapse, leaving someone open.
Wow...the Nets seem terrible on the boards. Especially on the offensive boards.
Re: On MWill, the Pic-&-Roll, and Other Musings...
I don't know what is up with M-will. He has to start up plays and finish them, not hold the ball for a long period of time. I know what kind of ball he plays, cuz I kind of play like him too, just hold the ball and wait for a play to happen and give the ball to the person who will finish it, but seriously, he has to move around the court alot if he wants plays to finish faster.

Just pay attention to the pic-&-roll with Nenad in the next game. Almost every time he rolls to the basket, the pass is not being made to him. I mean, he's not gonna run to the basket and slam it or anything like that, but he's got good hands and at the least, it forces the D to collapse on him. I know he's a good shooter and all, so the pic-&-pop works as well, but he's working to get inside and they're not hitting him on the cuts.
It's not just Nenad either. There have been times that Vince (VINCE!) was curling to the basket off a pic and MWill or Wright won't dump the ball to him on the move. If you've watched the Jazz game then you should have a pretty good idea of how it's supposed to be run. The Jazz dumped the ball to the cutting big man on almost every pic-&-roll.
It's extemely frustrating once you notice it because the passing lane and the potential easy play is clear as day, but it's not being made, time and time again.
But the other thing is the offensive boards...absolutely terrible man. I don't know how many times the Nets missed the shot and there were 5 white jerseys around the bucket (not a blue one to be seen). None of the perimeter players (aside from Kidd) even move towards the basket when a shot is made. I saw Wright standing at the three point line on several shots instead of moving closer, anticipating the rebound.
Part of this is the big men are plagued by a lack of ability to jump. I swear, Cliffy, Collins, and Krstic can only get like, 6 inches off the ground Krstic attempts too many layups when he should be finishing strong with a dunk.
Re: On MWill, the Pic-&-Roll, and Other Musings...
like i said before while everyone was blinded by preseason, he dosent see the floor as good as everyone thought he did and has struggled with his passing even going back to UConn regardless of the fact he had a lot of dimes its mainly because he played with a real talented team
Re: On MWill, the Pic-&-Roll, and Other Musings...
My goodness, 5 games into the season and people are this down on Marcus already, tough crowd. He's definitely made some rookie mistakes, he needs to cut down on those damn turnovers, and he hasn't found his shooting touch yet. But still, he's definitely been a big part of our much improved bench, and hey, i'll take 7/3/3 from a young backup PG (it's better production than what we use to get from vaughn). He's only gonna get better as he gains more experience
Re: On MWill, the Pic-&-Roll, and Other Musings...
I like him when he does well, but how are we to really see what his game is at this point.
This team has to gel a little bit, the roster's got some personnel changes to go through yet, and not to mention that this kid passes so hot, recievers don't even see it comming.
I've gotta see him with Hassan, have not seen since preseason, to a degree the preseason was a different team, Walsh was actually nice with him. Also Mikki has much love for the 'rook.
I am in favor of a real B unit to be played 3rd quarter when our starters tend to be a little lax.
williams, nachbar, adams, cliffy and moore (house and boone in a perfect world)
He's got a bright future, but right now he's still on training wheels, and so is the bench to a degree.
Don't get me wrong I love this bench, and I think that they will eventually bear near 40ppg for some stretches this year, and williams will have alot to do with it.
Re: On MWill, the Pic-&-Roll, and Other Musings...
our bench has been pretty terrific so far this season, and its not even at full strength yet. we can only get better, especially defensively. and we need to cut down on turnovers, and try to minimize those stretches where everything falls apart
Re: On MWill, the Pic-&-Roll, and Other Musings...
I'm not worried about the kid. Talent like he showed in preseason game after game is not illusory. He's just struggling a bit at the moment -- with his shot, with his defense, with his decisions, and even a bit with his confidence. Still he's made a handful of very impressive plays this season that remind you of the kind of vision and passing skills he has. They are plays that only guys with inextinguishable confidence and talent make. So I'm not worried about him. He's finding his way and it's only a matter of time before he starts contributing regularly in the same fashion he displayed in preseason.
