If Vince goes, I go.
Originally, I was actually a Toronto Raptors fan when they first came into the league in 1995, and when they drafted Vince Carter in 1998 he immediately became my favourite player (and he likely became so to many others). The team was steadily improving.
However, like what's happening with my Toronto Maple Leafs for the whole world to see (if they follow the NHL), the new management that bought the team and took over the MLSE was starting to screw things up, hiring people who had no idea what they were doing when it came to putting together a winning team. I mean this is one of, if not the worst team management in sports.
Vince got steamed at how the team was being run and how it's progression was being halted, and so did I. It is what is it.
As soon as they said that Vince wanted a trade or that he was likly to be traded I said that "If Vince goes, I go", because he was right. Had they not let him go, I'd probably of stayed on board, but they did and 'So shall be be written, so shall it be done'.
They ended up getting Bryan Colangelo (someone who actually has a brain), but by then it was already too late by then. I left before he came along could stop the franchise's slow death, and though the team is doing better now than the Nets, I'm sticking with them.
Anyway, yeah, that's pretty much how I started cheering for New Jersey. It's been bumpy to say the least, but things have gone pretty well for the most part.
If Carter was to be traded from New Jersey though then I'd probably leave if he leaves too, despite how well the team is playing. I hope it doesn't come to that though. I really do like the Nets.
I like their fans, I like their logo, I like their colours (Blue is
too cool). And like someone mentioned before, this board is pretty cool as well. Made some friends that are Nets fans and I like to talk about the team and how things are going on.
That's partly the reason why I joined this forum to begin with. It helps me stay informed.
I'm glad he staying. I would have been much harder to leave than it was for the Raptors.
And to answer the question completely, I'd still follow them even if I left, which wasn't the case for the Raptors.

So what I'm reading is there are a lot of fair weather fans, most likely from the Nets starting to win when JKidd first got there, who disliked the Nets again when Martin left and they started losing again, then liked them again when Carter arrived and they won some more, but would dislike the nets should Carter go and they start losing again.

And you read this where? I didn't see much of that... if any of it.
