Virtually risk free. $1.6 million over two years. Cost him luxury tax this year. That's it.

Re: semi-OT: Randolph Morris is a Knick
Theres something shady here though. Tubby leaves yesterday, and they sign him today. How long have the Knicks been talking to him? Theres no way he just takes an offer without it being on the table for a reasonable amount of time.

Re: semi-OT: Randolph Morris is a Knick
Not for the Knicks. Morris could have signed with ANY team at ANY time in the past two years. Didnt matter if he was playing or not.
Kentucky may have a problem if he had done a deal before the last game.
And I disagree about him. I watched him play two games recently. He may have had problems in the past, but he looked talented and athletic.
The Knicks now have Frye (23), Lee (23), Curry (24), Jeffries (25) and Morris (21).

Not neccessarily, Morris had a to make a quick move, he was assed out with Tubby leaving. His technically a free agent who many teams were possibly going to look at during the summer, him signing the deal with the knicks was the only lucrative financial gurantee he has. Morris's options were either he would have been a summer camp invite and then possibly cut during the summer or get signed to the league minimum or to sign this free agency deal.

I switched to MSG, the commentator just said because of Morris's odd situation many teams around the league were not sure about the NBA's rule on signing Morris, most teams believe they could not sign him until June 1st

All that would take is for your agent to call a few teams and get a bidding war going. but while it's true that any team could have signed him at any time, wouldn't he have lost his eligibility to play if he signed with an agent regardless of his status as a free agent? and like others have said, why of all teams would be pick the lowly knicks. there are guys in front of him contributing so unless he blows isiah away, he's on the bench. in 2 years of not playing much for the knicks, maybe he hurts himself even further if no one is going to offer him anything big on his next contract. i think i see a trade for the knicks this summer...not a big one for garnett but because of numbers, maybe they'll trade frye for a #1 pick or maybe trade frye and force someone to take james or richardson.

He wasn't technically a free agent. He was a free agent, period. He could have been signed to a similar deal or maybe even a more lucrative deal. He wouldn't have had to wait til summer. If teams thought he couldnt be signed, they didn't read any one of a number of stories pointing out that he was and had been a free agent. I think that's MSG hype to make Isiah look smarter.
Also very few teams had an open roster spot. Nets would have had to dump someone to sign Morris. It was smart move by Isiah, but one that few teams could have accomplished as easily as the Knicks.

Re: semi-OT: Randolph Morris is a Knick
I don't think he's got that much potential. Lets not call him a first rounder now. Remember this is a player who went undrafted. Regardless, you would think a player who is ready for the NBA would come back to college and dominate...that certainly hasn't been the case.

Re: semi-OT: Randolph Morris is a Knick
this guy was not even drafted last year in the epitome of a potential-based draft- the NBA. no way he can learn to play defense on the NBA level without a summer league and training camp, 1st rounders every year cant learn it, and some undrafted FA certainly wont pick it up mid-season.

He was in the 2005 draft (after his Freshman year), not the 2006 draft (after his Sophomore year)

Re: semi-OT: Randolph Morris is a Knick
This is a great low risk/high reward move.
I don't understand why he was so cheap and why he signed so quickly.
