Something I found odd
How come Lawrence Frank didnt react so wildly, or atleast look like he was in joy when the Nets won? It was like winning the series was just another day at work or sumtin. I expected to see some clapping and hugs going around, hes too serious.

Politi made a comment about this as well, in his excellent article praising Lawrence Frank today. He credits Frank's consistency. I love Politi's style. Superb writer.

His lineups changed. His roster changed. But he never did. Frank kept this team together during a rocky 41-41 regular season when injuries claimed two-fifths of his starting lineup. He thoroughly outcoached counterpart Sam Mitchell, the NBA Coach of the Year, in this series.
And last night, with the season on the line, he made the most gutsy and important call of his career.

When Jefferson stole the final pass and the buzzer sounded, the players celebrated at center court as the crowd cheered. Frank, meanwhile, just walked down the sideline for the postgame handshake as if this were a mid-November game against Charlotte, not one of his finest moments as a coach.

His job isn't to celebrate a win, his job is to prepare them for the next one.

That's why he can be an NBA head coach at 33 and most people can't.
And don't disregard that knuckle pounding. It's done with passion.

Re: Something I found odd
You expect the coach to start going wild and popping the champagne after winning in the first round? Especially a no non-sense guy like Frank, we'd probably have to win a chip before he celebrated. Even then, he's too classy to want to show the other team up.

Re: Something I found odd
If there's one thing that can be said about Frank, it is that he is humble. He respects opponents, respects his players, respects the game and wants to win the right way.
For all of his shortcomings, he is just a humble guy who prepares his team to the Nth degree.

Exactly right...he is also the ultimate professional. Bobby Knight taught him well.

Re: Something I found odd
Frank, as coach, reacted exactly appropriately. I'd like to think that
Marcus Williams non-reactions to Net success drama were motivated by similar thinking but I doubt it. While RJ was winning the game and bench teammates like Antoine Wright were ecstatic and showing it, Marcus stood stonefaced ( playing time issues?) trying not to injure his hands skin
by clapping too hard or his vocal cords by screaming or his facial muscles by smiling.

Re: Something I found odd
U want goofy coach emotion, go watch some middle aged dad at a little league game in Bayonne.
For Frank, he let out is own classy emotion when he embraced Sam Mitchell. It was sincere and true and like a Japanese Samurai Warrior...He had just ripped the guys heart out, stolen his mantle as Coach of the year and in a hug that was equal to a bow of respect, he took his moment to exhale as he hugged, bowed, and dropped the limp and lifeless dinosaur from his Coach's strangle and walked off already preparing in his mind for the next challenge. Frank rules the empire....at leat for today...until Darth Stern and his torn Jedi jar Jar Lebron greet us today on the dark moon of Cleveland.

Re: Something I found odd
I haven't seen Pat Riley do that, I never saw Phil Jackson do that. That's what coaches do, extend their hand in sportsmanship and not gloat in the opponent's coache's face.

Well to be fair, that was after Stern changed the league policy on carrying weapons and KG could no longer distract Zach with his pump, uzi and couple M-16s.

Re: Something I found odd
I didnt expect Frank to jump up and down in joy, but when someone puts in so much work and time to learn about the teams and make plays, there's no way you don't celebrate. Unless he was just hiding his true feelings and ran to his office later to get drunk and stoned

Re: Something I found odd
You want to see no reaction? Look at Phil Jackson. Guy never reacts to anything, even if Kobe hits a game winning shot.

Re: Something I found odd
Phil Jackson has coached Michael Jordan teams, can anything more impress you after that?
