thats was the discussion last night at the barbershop I decided to bring it here.

I do think this Pistons team is great but one of the greatest ever??? Sure they put together 60 something wins, was able to beat the Super Lakers in 5 games and has been a constant presence in the ECF but how much of the east lack of good teams play in to their dominance?

To be fair this team has spanked teams like Mavs Suns but also lacks the killer instinct to destroy a team when they can?

I don't know.

One of best teams ever in the 2000 era? yea but one of the greatest Eastern Conference Teams? HMMMMM?????????

They've won one championship in this run--and not that that is the only measure--but I think it'll take more then that to get them into the discussion for one of the greatest eastern conference teams ever. Gotta look at the Bulls teams from the 90's, a ton of the old cetlics teams..those older sixers teams, even the bad boy pistons.

One of the best teams these past couple years? Absolutely. Best teams ever? Not yet.

I would say the 2004 Pistons would have to be up there, in the best ECF conversation definitely.

They beat the Nets in 7, Pacers in 6, Lakers in 5.

That is true, but I don't see how that makes a difference when it comes to all time talks. Jordan, Bird, Russell, Isiah, etc...I don't see how them being on the team should count against how good the teams were.

MJ's Bulls both runs take out this Detroit group, with Webber or Ben.
Detroit takes out Ewing's Knicks the group with Houston, Oakley 1997-2000.
Don't think they beat the Bad Boys. Rodman will dominate them defensively, Zeke and Dumars are too much from outside.
Bird's Celtics....forget it.
Kidd's Nets, given the offense back then, that group takes them out too.

From recent memory, MJ's run and Birds Celtic were much better than Detroit's recent group.

I'll say this though: they have two of the most underrated players in the NBA in Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince.

IF, IF the Nets make it to the next round, the Pistons will be UP for the Nets...and vice versa. Could be a very good if low scoring round.
