Anyone else notice how the Cavs defenders have been able to stay in front him this entire series? Has Vince Carter finally gotten old? Vince lived off of his athletic ability for years, that's what made him into a marquee player but without his atheltic ability, his offensive games simmers down a bit.
Why is Vince's jumpshot so inconsistent as well? Other SGs have good reliable jumpshots but with Vince, it's basically a low percentage shot.

This is hardly a one game thing. Vince has never had that blinding first step since he donned a Net uniform. Fact is though the Cavs built their offense to shut down Carter and he did nothing to prove that he was ready to pick it apart. He played like a tool, played passive and didn't want the burden of losing the game for his team.
I think he's just finally lost a significant step in his game. He hasn't been the old high flying VC in awhile but when he got here he still showed flashes for that old VC. This year he rarely showed that and I really think he's just lost a little bit over this past year and a half. Every now and then he can muster up enough to do an electrifying dunk or layup but there are times when he drives now where he goes for a layup when in the past he would've dunked it.
As far as getting around defenders this year has been really tough...he's been doubled and tripled alot but you're right he's had a really hard time simply getting around defenders off the dribble. Rod Thorn has a really tough decision to make on this one...not sure what VC will be in 2-3 years.

Yes he did. He worked in the post his first season here and including 05-06 and he used his quickness to draw fouls and finish around the rim. This season, defenders have been able to stay right with him. This season, however, he hasn't had that same explosiveness and was evident this series. Even in the Toronto series, Games 3 and 4 he showed flashes but his jumpshot carried him.

Agreed completely.

Well, since Carter struggled shooting the ball from outside it probably made driving the ball harder with defenders not overplaying him for the jumpshot. If he was hitting his jumper better it would have opened up the drive a bit more but at the same time if he beat his man off the dribble the Cavs would just collapse on him anyways.

Thing is, over the course of the season he averaged 25.2 points and went to hte line 7 times a game. In 2004-2005 he went to the line 6.7 times a game. I think his jumper was *** last year also when he shot 43%. I agree though, he is getting old and the man played damn near 100 games this season.
Anyway I think everyone's exaggerating things a little too much because he played like a douchebag and his jumper wasn't falling. Like cpawfan said, what you see with Vince is what you get. Time to stop force feeding him the basketball 800 times in the 4th quarter because he's just not a very good "closer".
When an an overly athletic player loses his athleticism, usually it's not that pretty (circa Dominique Wilkins '93).

HOW you only noticing this now??? Vince had been playing like this this whole season and at the end of last season. he had been no show in the playoffs mabe except one game against toronto
Well, he did play 3,611 minutes in 94 games, regular season and playoffs. The minutes total is second only to Lebron. And the 94 games as of now is the most anybody has played.
Maybe he's tired.
