Jared Dudley
The guy I have been praising like crazy and have already said he will be the late round steal of the draft.

2006-07 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year was on hand in Tarrytown for Day 4 of the Nets-Knicks joint workouts today. A self proclaimed “junk yard dog,” Jared Dudley is a player whose skills can be unquantifiable at times. Yes, he averaged a very tangible 19.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in his senior year at Boston College, but it is the little things that he does and which help his teams win that cannot be measured in the “Anthropometric Testing Results” that many teams rely on. Tests can tell you who the inborn athletes are; height, reach, and wingspan are all things that can be measured. And while Dudley won’t win any awards in those categories – he self-admittedly has a lack of athletic ability – it is his knowledge and intuition on the court that make up for a lot of comparative deficiencies. Jared is what Nets General Manager Ed Stefanski simply called “a basketball player.”

Stefanski today, “Jared has good size; he is not an over the rim type of athlete but he is what I would call a basketball player. And to me that’s the ultimate compliment when you say he is a basketball player. The guy makes plays.”
|
Jared will be on the Nets roster by next season.

Re: Jared Dudley
It's not like he's some obscure player. He was the ACC player of the year.
He is short and not very athletic. He is a finished product, so there isn't much room for improvement.
The better the team he goes to, the more he will help. He's a good player.
He'll go exactly where he was predicted to go a year ago - in the late first/early second.
Honestly, this is not a hard player to figure out. Franchises are made and broken on players with potential. The team that takes Dudley will be trying to add a safe piece, not swing for the fences.

Re: Jared Dudley
Yeah I don't think he's worth the 17th either, but would be a huge value at a 2nd rounder

Re: Jared Dudley
If someone gives him a guaranteed first round contract they should be fired on the spot.He simply doesn't translate to the NBA as more than a 10th man.He has some skill, but he doesn't have the necessary athletic ability. At BC he did a lot of scoring on the interior. In the NBA he's going to be undersized at either forward position.I really doubt that he goes before the middle of the second round. He just doesn't have the physical abilities required to get his shot off in the NBA and he's going to be at a huge disadvantage on defense for the same reason(plus the fact that he wasn't particularly good defensively in college)
The best case scenario for Dudley is that he becomes a star in one of the lesser european leagues. He would have problems matching up with the talent level in La Lega or the ACB too.

Re: Jared Dudley
I like Dudley, but ghoti nailed it. You know what you're getting with him, but he does have great basketball instinct.
EDIT: wow, 3 posts at exactly the same time, what are the odds?

I think you're way off base here. Like Stefanski said, the guy's a player, his instincts on the court are incredible. He'll latch on and be a solid piece somewhere, methinks.

Re: Jared Dudley
Diable probably watches the ACC more than anyone else on this board. I thought his evaluation of Dudley was pretty much accurate. Not so sure about the last one or two sentences tho.

I've seen plenty of Dudley also, and while his evaluation was accurate, I don't think the part of him being a 10th man or best hope playing as a star in Europe is accurate.
But then again he watches so much ACC, I'm wrong.

Re: Jared Dudley
This is what happens when there are one too many Stromile Swifts in the league and good old Ryan Gomes comes along.
What was out of style all of a sudden becomes popular again.

Re: Jared Dudley
See the thing about Gomes is he actually is a pretty decent athlete. Same thing goes for Millsap and Craig Smith. Daniel Gibson was considered a lottery pick not too long ago. All this guys are pretty good athletes IMO, Dudley on the other hand has little to no athleticism
