Yes, Haslem is a glue guy. Walker at the 4 would certainly play a different role than Haslem. He's more versatile than Haslem, and not a bad rebounder. It's not like Haslem can shut down the Tim Duncans of the world either. Walker has also played much more in a team concept since coming to the Heat.
I like Haslem much more than Walker, but playing next to Shaq and under Riley, I think that diminishes the downgrade.
|
Doesn't diminish the downgrade at all, plus it significantly weakens their bench.

Then you have a flaw in understanding. Playing next to Tim Duncan made Nazr Mohammad a quality starter for the Spurs. Superstar big men can do that.
Losing Wright significantly weakens their bench? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Wright has been a big part of what they're doing as he's more for the future. Posey is already gone.

The flaw in understanding is on your part. Moving shimmy boy into the starting lineup significantly weakens their bench.
Additionally, if you believe Shaq still has that much impact on his PF, you are mistaken.

Who is going to start for the Heat at SF this season then if not Walker? He's already in the starting lineup, unless they get a replacement.

'Tis why I said it depends on how much Riley thinks Shaq has to give. And after the garbage season he had, and the money they're paying him, and getting ousted in the first round, you would think Shaq would have something to play for, and I'm sure Riley and his teammates expect that from him. Doesn't mean he can or will do it, but it is expected considering what he's supposed to mean to that franchise.

Re: Trade Idea: RJ for Re-signed Posey, Haslem, Wright
I think it depends on how important it is to Riley to have a third player who can get into the teeth of the defense and take the pressue off of Shaq and especially Wade. After Wade's injury rittled season, that seems like a high priority. I guess most here don't see having that as worth losing Haslem to the Heat.

My issue was you using Wright as a throw in, when there is a possiblity he will be the best player in the trade.

My original idea didn't include Wright, but Haslem for RJ straightup doesn't quite work for me. Find another player to add with Haslem to make it worth trading RJ instead of Wright and I'd go with it. Wright isn't a given to be a star, either.

We missed out on AI this year because we refused to include Haslem. Not giving him up for RJ alone.

RJ is a better fit for the Heat than AI. You don't need another ballhog, but someone who can wait his turn and put pressure on the defense when Wade sits. AI's trade value was extremely low at the time, as well. A year ago Haslem wouldn't have been enough anyway.

Riley is the guy who traded for two of the biggest retards in the NBA, started them, and won the championship with them. He is obviously not uncomfortable with starting Walker. A different GM would likely have a different view.
