On our one dimensional big men
Collins - excellent defender, no offensive game
Krstic - good scorer, some rebounding, average defense
Magloire - very good rebounder, some scoring, average defense
Boone - good in pick and rolls
Williams - remains to be seen, reputedly an excellent shotblocker
Now I can understand why some quarters want Jermaine O' Neal. JON can practically do all in one body--score inside and out, defend, block shots, and rebound. I don't know if he's good with pick and rolls but that is easier taught.
The thing now is to work with pieces that we have. Boone and Williams are still works in progress and remain our wildcards for the season. If Coach Laurence Frank could squeeze out some more defense from Krstic and Magloire and turn them into above average defenders I think we do have a chance at the title.

Krstic and Magloire as they are give us a chance in the EAST. But if you look at how I qualified it, if they both play above average defense, then we do have a chance at the TITLE.

Re: On our one dimensional big men
Krstic is coming off an injury, he's sure to be rusty. Mags has to get out of the habit of playing haggardly. How can that surpass the Duncans of the league and the athleticism of the Amare-types?

Re: On our one dimensional big men
In the east, anything is possible; it's wide open. This past season a team that was lottery bound most of the season made it to the second round and had a chance to go to the conference finals. The heat got swept by the bulls.
If you can make it to the playoffs in the east, it is at least somewhat possible for you to be a contender. If you are one of the better playoff teams in the east (ie, us) then you can most definitively be a contender when you make the playoffs. I agree that Krstic and Magloire makes us title contenders; in the east.

as long as they're used wisely by frank, and do what they're supposed to, i think the nets will do fine.

Re: On our one dimensional big men
The Nets are certainly contenders in the East. This is, player by player, the best Net team since 2003. If everyone stays healthy come playoff time, this team can do damage. Whether or not they are championship contenders is not really a question open for debate. They aren't. Thorn recognizes this and knows that the team only has a 2 or 3 year window with the Kidd-Carter tandem. Why else do you think Jefferson is being shopped around so heavily?

Re: On our one dimensional big men
In fact, we have 5 big men, that's really enough on paper, they all are NBA players.
We have 5 NBA front court players, that means huge.

Maybe I've just got a huge man-crush on KMart, but I'd take that first group in a second.

Re: On our one dimensional big men
I too believe we are title contenders, as much as I hate Collins, I have not been comfortble him not being on the floor, he is a good defender, and not only that more importantly has the body to not get shoved around, Kristic, Moore, Williams, or Robinson, none had the body to stand their ground, atleast on paper, thats a huge +ve mentally to opposing teams, With Maglorie, we get that, so now on most nights we are capable of having one big man who can stand his ground at all times.

Yeah, the 02 group was also much better. Maybe shorter, but much better.
