is there a reason why van horn is not the solution.

i dont think it even matters is dallas sings this guys for 15 mil and trades him with Harris for kidd or they sign him for 2 mil and trade the same package as before just without george.

why question is as follows. no matter what contract Van horn signs, does Dallas have to pay any of it at all? they sign him, and trade him to the nets, what ever contract he has is off the books, its now the nets responsibility. so what is the problem for the mavs?

i dont see how the nets would give a crap which scrubs and which contracts they are paying as long as they expire by next year.

Dallas has to pay it in luxury tax.. Kidd no matter how you slice it, will be costing the Mavs way more than his 20 mill contract..

are you sure? i dont understand why they have to pay tax if a player and his contract is instantly traded. and besides, if they sign him to a deal equivalent to georges, and Dallas DOES have to pay tax, its only about 2 mil which shouldn't be that big of a deal if they are set on getting Kidd.

Re: is there a reason why van horn is not the solution.

The original deal had the Nets getting George which would take him off Dallas $. By signing KVH and trading him to the Nets they are ADDING his $ to their payroll so instead of subtracting George's $ they are in essence adding KVH salary and then trading it so they still owe George's contract and thus have to pay additional tax. So they end up owing George's contract since he is still on team as well as whatever tax is on KVH deal since they are over the tax already instead of simply subtracting George's since he would have been traded.

To tme...the larger problem (and more than likely the dealbreaker)will turn out to be the Stackhouse situation.

i dont think the stackhouse situation is a problem at all. the league will not do a thing about it.

also there was a 2nd deal in place that would send wright for a 2nd round pick. so instead of adding wrights and sending out georges salary in the original (double deal) they keep george and not get wright. again, dont see any significant impact money wise.

It's been reported that the league won't do anything about the Stackhouse situation, UNLESS the trade goes down. Then, supposedly they will forbid Stackhouse from re-signing with the Mavs this year.

Which pretty much knocks Stack out of the trade scenario.

Re: is there a reason why van horn is not the solution.

George's salary (or one close to it) needs to be part of the deal. And the league WILL look at Stackhouse IF the trade ever gets submitted to them. Wright was a separate deal in order to get Dallas another player and the Nets a trade exception and more salary gone.

Re: is there a reason why van horn is not the solution.

it has also been reported that the league will not block the trade if stack is in it. all the league will do is "look into the comments he made". which is nothing.

thorn already denied it, all it is, is some player that doesn't know wtf he's talking about, who cares.

i thought the league basically said (stu jackson) if stackhouse is in the trade, they will not allow him to return to the mavs

Re: is there a reason why van horn is not the solution.

The commissioner said during his All-Star news conference that the league is not blocking the inclusion of Jerry Stackhouse in any trade for Kidd, but that a thorough review of any deal is a virtual certainty.

"Even though I don't want to give Stackhouse and the Mavs their defense too easily, things happen," Stern said. "He certainly is allowed to do that in terms of going back after 30 days. The big issue is whether there is an agreement to do it. And speculating about it doesn't make it an agreement, even if you wish he hadn't spoken."

Stern reiterated that Stackhouse can be involved in the trade. He just emphasized that there can be no prearranged deal.
