In order to make the playoffs
Vince Carter must play the best basketball of his career scoring wise in the next 11 games. In order to make the playoffs we need 1848 points in the season from Vince Carter. Right now he has 1408. Which means he needs to score 440 points in the final 11 games. In order to acheive that he needs to average 40 ppg over the final 11. Is he capable of such a surge?? Maybe. Has he done it? Not even close. His best stretch of 40 point games was three out of four games during the 04-05 season with the nets against Pistons, Sixers and Spurs. Kobe Bryant has done it. Tmac has averaged 40 ppg during a month. There is no question he has the talent level.
Now all of you will be questioning me why 1848? Because he has never reached the playoffs nor his team without him averaging 24 ppg. Well if he some how pulls 40ppg over the last 11 I guarantee playoffs. But guys the man is due. He hasn't had his 5 forty point games yet. He usually gets a few by the end of the season. Well Vince like you said Now is ur time.

Re: In order to make the playoffs
Exactly. We can only hope yet you never know. Honestly I think he still has enough juice left in him. If he gets 5 45+ point games and a couple of 30 point games he can do this, along with a player of the month award for april.

Re: In order to make the playoffs
It's unlikely for him to score so much to make him average 24 ppg from 21 ppg, but so what. He has a teammate while averaging 23 ppg, and he is in his career year with the apg.
All we have to do is scoring like the PHX Suns in the eastern conference, beat Toronto, Hamilton-less Pistons, and LBJ's team.
Maybe Boston would not play very hard in the last game of this season for adjusting their bench, so we might have the chance. But who knows, maybe they would do Hawks a favor to beat us hard, so they would avoid playing with us, and to beat Hawks in the playoffs.

Re: In order to make the playoffs
I think Harris plays better with this team than Kidd. Just because as long as we have a scoring threat in the PG position, we are an intimidating team.
Not only VC and RJ are the primary scoring machines that you have to guard, but also you have to take care about Harris' scoring ability, that makes this team hard to guard. And Harris is as fast as Tasmania Devil, and he could pass the ball to Boone very well.
While Nenad Krstic can shoot the ball from 18 fts. With Harris, this team is going to be a great offensive team. If Boki can play so well like last game, we have the chance to make a playoffs run.

Re: In order to make the playoffs
but has vince ever had a 23ppg scorer by his side? i really dont know, im asking. because i think that obviously has something to do with his scoring being down. he has never played along side a prolific top-10 scorer in the nba.

We are a very different team since Kidd left. Have you seen us play yet with Devin Harris?

Re: In order to make the playoffs
I took one look at the thread starter and knew this thread would be about VC..Vince could average 40 over the final stretch, and the Nets would still miss the playoffs.. They're just a bad team, regardless of what VC does..

Re: In order to make the playoffs
Lol, 40 points per game over an 11 game stretch, are you serious? Also, it doen't matter how good one individual plays, basketball is a team game. As you saw from tonite, Vince had a good game with 33 points but they still didn't win. You need a team to win games, not an individual.

Re: In order to make the playoffs
Vince did not have a good game tonight. 10/26 is not a good game. 2 assists is not a good game. 5 turnovers IS NOT a good game. 4 points in a decisive fourth quarter is not a good game. Well Balla 15, you can laugh if u want but hes had 35+ point stretches in his career before over 11 games. This was an easy 33. The team didn't get it to him enough in the first when his three point shot looked dead on. Our team did not put the hammer down on this team. NOT at all. Vince included. Can't start off the quarter on an 0-8 run, and another 5 nothing drought to start the fourth. The lakers never go on droughts like that. Why cuz Kobe makes sure it doesn't happen. BTW, All our bigs have some kind of weakness.
Krstic- No defense, no post up game, extremely streaky.
Diop- No offensive game.
Boone- Size (poor defense)
S.Williams- No smarts, hit the rookie wall.
But they all have some sort of strength.
Krstic- pick and pop shooter
Diop- Hustler, best interior defender, good shot blocker
Boone- Hustler, good pick and roll player, good finisher, smart
S.Williams- Athletic, with Kidd he was a good shotblocker.
Tonights grades:
L.Frank: C (Why the team wasn't shooting threes at the end was beyond me when they were down by 8, and why didn't Krstic play after a poor start, neither did Sean Williams, just terrible.)
Vince Carter: B- (Wasn't there when it mattered most)
RJ: C- (where did he go in the 2nd half)
Devin Harris: B+ (where did he go in the 2nd half)
Josh Boone: A (Hustled, kept plays alive)
Diop: C- (wasn't much of a factor except negative tonight)
Krstic: D- (at least he was trying, but he should have gone away from the post if things werne't going right for him).
Sean: Where is the shot blocking.
M.Williams: B+ (His defense on daniels sealed the deal. Yet he gave the team good offense. )
Nachbar: F (Very disappointed in his performance.)
Hassell: B (Got a few offensive boards, did a decent job defending).

Re: In order to make the playoffs
Why would you want to make the playoffs to face the Celtics anyway. Just missing the cut by 1 game can move you up 5 spots in the draft.
