Some fans may want the Nets to trade Yi Jianlian, however that probably won't happen. CEO Brett Yormark told the New York Daily News that Yi helps to sell sponsorship deals with Chinese companies.
"Chinese companies have been so receptive to us," said Yormark. "Obviously Yi didn't perform as well as he would have liked to last year. Regardless of that, his star power is growing in China.
"Yi had that stretch before he got hurt when he was terrific, and I think people are very mindful of that," Yormark said. "I think people realize that he's got tremendous upside and their interest in him has not changed."

Yeah its the not so hidden secret that they keep him because of everything else but his game, but really if he could just dedicate himself to being good at something, be it grabbing rebounds or shooting well, hopefully from the mid range, he'd be a decent player. He needs to watch tape of Hedo Turkoglu

I agree, but he needs to develop a mid range- 3 point shooting game and be consistent at it. He would be good coming off the bench as a 6th/7th man.
I guess I don't mind Yi staying just because Nets aren't exactly a good team in terms of making money.
But I was REALLY REALLY disappointed in him last year. he can be a matchup nightmare just because of his height and mobility but he doesn't have either upper strenght/control to create that mismatch. I've seen him trying to drive on bigger/slower guys but after he gets a small bump while driving he would just lose the ball.
He does have a pretty good form for 3 point shot but he can't utilize that well either because of his lack of variety on pick and roll. Almost every single pick and roll, he opts to step back to 3 point line instead of rolling to the basket. There were many cases where Yi could've rolled to basket and have a clear lane but he just loves to stay outside. I don't know if thats Frank telling him to do that or him just not being able to see the opportunity but its VERY VERY frustrating.
He does a decent job getting defensive rebound but he's not strong enough to get O board consistently.
Until he learns how to play smart or learn how to creat by himself, I really don't see him becoming a threat on offense other than shooting an open 3. He's a pretty big liability on D also. He's got potential because of his height and mobility but until he's more fundementally sound I don't wanna see him on the court.
He's just not that good... I always figured the Bucks drafted him for the same money-making reasons, and it bothered me a little. He still has potential, but winning games should take priority over selling jerseys in China.

Thats why if we get Carlos Boozer, he would be good coming off the bench, he has potential to be a threat, but he just doesn't know how to utilize his talents wisely.

pretty sure we would want boozer whether or not yi is here. as for being a backup, I think Ryan Anderson is probably miles ahead of Yi right now. Anderson was a pretty accurate shooter and he surprised me alot with his ability to rebound. If Boozer does somehow make it to New Jersey, Yi is going to have to prove that he improved alot from last season to get minutes.
He has only played 2 season in the NBA for a total of 127 games. Many big players, especially foreign born, take a little longer to adjust. I would not pass judgement until after this season...look how Bargnani grew in his 3rd season...he is not an allstar, but going in the right direction. Yi could be a very valuable 7th man off the bench bringing scoring and mismatches to the floor.
he's pure crap guys, who are you kidding, tall and long and skinny, not athletic enough to compete with the men
but the star power is true, it's surprising whenever i watch Nets play my teams online that many chinese viewers are tuned in
